18 month old can’t sit still/take direction etc

Help! I have an 18month old who is very active and now I’m wondering if it’s more than that. He can’t sit still at all and he hates sitting in his car seat and buggy. He doesn’t listen when you talk to him but I’m sure his hearing is ok as he does respond if it’s something he’s interested in.

It’s also an issue when we walk anywhere especially if we go to the shops. He just wants to pull everything off the shelves and run riot. Obviously I try to control him but he just screams and starts throwing a tantrum. I’m really starting to find it difficult to manage his personality.

Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to make him listen and follow directions better?

That’s good Titty, these things do depend from child to child.

TittyGolightly We’ve done he same with some things e.g. beds and the shoe cabinet but the coffee tables are too narrow, one step in the wrong direction and she would have a nasty fall.

She climbs up and sits on it, which is fine, but is getting the idea that standing up, with her hands in the air, and shouting ‘yey!’ is not allowed.
I’m hoping that consistency is key but dd just finds me consistently amusing. Hmm

Haha tittygolightly.
You haven't met my child .
If I let her climb everything she wanted she'd seriously hurt her self even though she can get down properly .
You wouldn't let them explore fire would you . Sometimes they can't do everything they like

Well, of course. But DD was walking at 9 months and running by 10. We all make judgements about risks. That was ours re climbing.

Yep my eldest was walking at 10 months .

My youngest not until 17 months
