Baby rolling

I'm probably unnecessarily worrying here and I know every babies different but what ages did your babies start to roll,

DD could roll from tummy to back at 3.5 months for about a week but hasn't done it since, she gets plenty of tummy time (she really enjoys it) but just doesn't seem to roll over anymore. She's now 5.1 months

DD rolled once at 4 months and didn't do it for a while and is now rolling both ways at 5 months. Tbh I wouldn't worry unless she's behind in other milestones or hasn't started rolling in a couple of months. Baby centre says most babies should be rolling in both directions (I assume that means b-f and f-b) at 6 months so no worries if she isn't doing it at 5.

chloechloe · 11/04/2018 21:03

Don't worry! Maybe she's decided she's mastered it and CBA practising any more!

Be glad. It usually takes 2-3 months for them to learn to roll back the other way. During this time DD1 woke up every 30 minutes all night long as she kept rolling onto her tummy and couldn't roll back.

Another thing: verbal and motor skills are acquired in the first 2 years but never developed at the same time as the brain can't learn both things at once. Children tend to favour one skill over the other. Now that she's stopped rolling, perhaps she's become more verbal?

I've definitely noticed in my own DC and those of friends that the classic motor children who walk first talk later whereas those that lie around apparently doing nothing speak first.

She's so little still that it's really too early to worry!

My little girl rolled literally once at 3 months, then didn't bother again til 9 months, when she started crawling! Some babies just don't seem all that bothered about it.

Thank you all! You've put my mind at rest, a couple of times today she's rolled onto her side but got stuck so I suppose it's only a matter of time

@chloechloe that makes sense. She is very vocal, always shouting and cooing and she's just started using the w sound, is just so hard not to compare to other babies especially when it's your first

my DD started rolling front to back at about 3.5 months for about a week then stopped completely until about 6 months until she started rolling from back to front but then she couldn't get back! She can go both ways now at 7 months, all babies are different but i remember worrying like you are now!

Caterina99 · 12/04/2018 01:18

My DS rolled once from front to back at about 3 months and then never did it again. He suddenly discovered he could roll from back to front at 7 months and then he immediately crawled and was confidently walking and running by 10 months.

tinytreefrog · 13/04/2018 09:21

My dd 2 could crawl before she could roll! She'd been crawling and walking around the furniture for a couple of months, but if you put her on her back, she couldn't get up, she was like a stranded turtle! She walked about 2 weeks after she rolled! Strange child!

My ds is the same! He's only just started rolling from back to front this week despite the fact he's been crawling for a few months, it's actually quite a pain cos it was the one way I could leave him and know he couldn't get into mischief for 2 seconds, not anymore! Grin

ew1990 · 13/04/2018 22:23

Ahh you've all made me feel so reassured- I've gotta stop taking notice of posts on Facebook about people babies who can roll both ways at 3 months

Queen yeah I can leave her on her back and nip to the toilet but this morning I was gone for about 15 seconds and she had wiggled from the middle of the rug to near the edge of it 🙄

My dd rolled quite early the first time and then didn't do it for ages, she did that a few times I think she just forgot how to do it! She does it with words now she's trying to talk, says a word repeatedly for a few days then doesn't say it for ages... I think it's normal! X

MummyCuddlesSolveEverything · 13/04/2018 22:29

Ds could roll front to back at 3months, then seemed to forget he could when he went from back to front at 5.5 months. He'd roll onto his tummy and not know how to get back. At 6.5 months he's remembered and is rolling everywhere! They are all different me do things in their own way.

kirstian · 13/04/2018 22:32

My DS did exactly the same, he rolled tummy to back at 3 months-ish, did it a couple of times and never bothered again!
He's now 5 and a half months and is always rolling from his back to his front but still never bothers the other way around! Frustrating as he'll roll to his front and then moan because he doesn't want to be on his front but doesn't seem to understand that he can roll himself back over!

HollyBen · 13/04/2018 22:42

My daughter rolled front to back twice at around 3 months, then didn't do it again until she was starting to walk at around 14 months. She is now 7 and an extremely active child. All of my friends babies were rolling/crawling/walking before she was. By the time they were 18 months there was difference in physical ability

ew1990 · 06/05/2018 12:11

Well she rolled over once last week and didn't do it since - till last night when she woke me up kicking coz she rolled on her front and couldn't get back

My son is 4 and half months and is only rolling onto his side and back again.

Mistigri · 06/05/2018 16:09

My first child never rolled. Development was otherwise normal and she walked at 10 months so no physical issues.

I didn't realise at the time how great it is to be able to plonk a baby down knowing that they won't go anywhere. Was a shock when baby 2 started rolling! (He was really early, before 6 weeks.)
