I'm really struggling with my toddler at the moment. Our local toddler group has closed down, and the 2nd nearest us is on Easter holidays. Our library has also reduced its opening hours.

I take him to the park most days, which he enjoys but it doesn't fill our time. He also hates the wind and rain so I could do with some indoor activites! Suggestions would be very welcome as he seems bored of toys even though I rotate them.

I try to get out every morning to a park, local museum, Morrison has mini trolleys, beach, a trip on a bus, dentist, soft play, cafe with play area.

Afternoon inside make cakes, drawing, play dough, at that age DD was happy moving things from one container to another, singing songs, playing with dyed rice, drawing or painting.

I’m sorry that your local toddler group has closed down. Could you get together with any local Mums to get one going again?

I really feel for you OP. My Son was very busy and it took a lot of ti:e working out things that would keep him entertained. Making has made sone good suggestions already. My DS loved baking and making Play Doh and still cooks now. There are some good ideas here too Smile

My toddler loves "washing up" - a bowl, mugs, cups, spoons bottles etc and pouring water everywhere. Plenty of towels and a change of clothes but keeps him happy for ages.
Also pull back cars have him in hysterics. He also plays fetch with rolled balls on the floor.
Making duplo towers
Chalk drawings on the patio with giant chalks.
Finger painting
We have a nursery rhymes cd that he goes actions to.
Stacking cup towers
Play dough although he does try to eat it.
Putting playmobil into various Tupperware boxes is strangely fascinating.

Other than that it's just the usual :)

Oh and sofa cushion obstacle course is great fun - especially if you can add in random boxes to jump in and make it a circular course Grin

Following, some great ideas here!

The children’s centres and community centres near me run regular soft play sessions that are cheap, and less hellish hectic than the commercial soft play venues.

Swimming is a good’un (although a faff).

I recently paid for online Sing and Sign membership so we can watch the videos, I don’t feel so bad letting him watch tv because it’s educational Wink He is always mesmerised and loves the songs.

Swimming, zoo, animal park of some kind, soft play centre, Google childrens classes/centres in your area

YY to classes, favourites that we tried were Sing and Sign, Monkey Music and Hartbeeps.

Also pet shops if they have fish and small animals!

The imagination tree blog has some great ideas for at home creative play.

I always try to get out with mine, so in bad weather we go to a local garden centre, which has a small play area inside and I get a brew. Or a big furniture shop for a wander (sounds strange but all the climbing on and off beds is good exercise.) We have a pets at home in walking distance and go to see the rabbits and fish.

In nicer weather we 'paint' outside with a broom and water. Chalk on the patio. Have a go on the trampoline, 'clean' the play house with warm soapy water etc

A daytime bath is eternally popular, he might be too young but turning out the light and throwing glow sticks in is fun.

Thanks all. We got in a good routine with library sessions and playgroups, was gutted when they stopped. Will follow up on these ideas. He's a very sociable, active baby which is great but I sometimes wish he was happy to be at home...wishful thinking!
