You chose to have children

AIBU to think that single parents should put their children first especially if the child/ children have valid reasons for not liking their parents partner. It is hard enough for the child/children to deal with rejection from the other parent but for their only parent to choose their partner over their child is wrong

Agreed. No child some come second, whatever their relationship status.

Agree that parents should always put their kids first but not sure what the point of your post is. Can't imagine anyone is going to come on here and say 'you know what, I disagree and think people should put their partners before their kids'.

I find more people disagreeing with my view and wondered if i was wrong

I don't think I know anyone who would disagree! I am step-mum to a beautiful little girl. Given, we get on like a house on fire, but DP missed my birthday away because her mum was a no show picking her up, has cancelled many of our plans because he's had an opportunity to have his DD etc etc. Maybe I just can't imagine someone putting their partner before their kids because my DP is so besotted by his DD! It's lovely.

Caramina thats really sweet, unfortunately there are parents who put their partners first, personally my children come first, always have, always will. I just cant understand why people choose partner over children

My son, when he was a child, hated every single person that took my attention.

Whether it was a friend, a workmate, a potential date.

If I had put him 'first' every single time, I would have become a recluse.

His father was a very violent man, so far as he went to prison for what he did to me and the kids.

My son adored him.

If I had put my son, and his father, 'first', I would probably be dead now.

So I didn't put my son 'first'.

Sorry for posting twice....

I agree. I think it's damaging to force a child to spend extended, repeated periods of time with someone who dislikes or is indifferent to them (giving valid reasons for the child to not like them).

My older sister did nothing when her partner started hitting her son, he had no choice but to move out and live with his friend, his friend has moved away and is staying at mine but there is no room. Everyone is siding with her not knowing the truth and i love my nephew dearly but i havent got the space to let him live with me . I have my own children and im a single parent
