Hi,

I try and get out as much as possible but when it’s raining and half term (everywhere so busy) and no baby groups on. How do I entertain my 10 month old who doesn’t not crawl/Walk.

Thanks!

Have you tried swimming OP?

xamyrose · 11/04/2018 08:21

Yeah we went swimming Monday which was nice.

I just hate to put the TV on too much!!

Have you tried edible finger paints or making Play Doh? At that age my DS liked his door bouncer and going to the library or just feeding the ducks in the park.

There are sone ideas here too.

Have you got the numbers of any local Mums so that you could arrange to meet up too?

Gymboree, libraries, messy play, visit a local Ikea and sit them in front of tubs of stuff, church groups have toy play too, toy libraries, buy cheap finger puppets, open a safe drawer of kitchen stuff, if they are walking, take them to an indoor place to practice, or museums have child areas too.

If LO isn’t walking or crawling, can they stand at the sofa? You could try putting a couple of toys on there and letting them stand and play for a few minutes Smile

My 10 month old can be entertained for an incredible amount of time by me putting a Muslim over my head.

FrogCow · 11/04/2018 22:56

I have a basket of crap. Small wicker basket filled with various things, spoons, a whisk, knobbly toys, rattles etc that I pop between his legs.

I know you said raining but if it’s not raining my children have always loved bubbles, they are now enjoying giant wands, very cheap and keeps them laughing for as long as we have bubble mixture. The refill bottles I got from Tesco are really good and cheap I recommend them wholeheartedly.

Sing with/to him/her, play with baby toys and musical toys, read books. Lots of tummy time unless he/she is disabled.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 11/04/2018 23:09

@Spam88 will friends who follow other religions do or is it just Islam? 😀

Pollaidh · 11/04/2018 23:13

Spam88 really hope you mean 'muslin'!

Tape a large sheet of paper to the table/high chair, then give chunky crayons (supervised), they might manage to make some marks.

Texture play - foam, bubbles, sand

Sing-songs. If you've got a piano, sit them on your lap and let them have a go

Play-do - give implements so they can make marks too

Ditto the random basket of stuff. That's a nanny trick - look up "Treasure Basket" for ideas. Watch spoons though as if they stick one in their mouth and then fall on it, it cuts their palate.

A 'safe' kitchen cupboard full of tupperware and stuff.

Play drums on saucepans

Make sock puppets

Investigate things like Sing and Sign, Musical Treehouse, Baby Yoga etc...

I swear I corrected it back to muslin...bloody autocorrect, why does it think I want to talk about Muslims all the time?

To clarify, I do not put people on my head. Apart from my baby sometimes, but she has no religion.

I've also got a few different light things (disco ball type things) which she loves and will entertain her for ages. I just have to stop her eating the cable/battery compartment...

Thank you all so much for your advice...

The weather looks like it’s going to be better for next week (woop) but I’m going to make a basket with household items tonight and see how that goes. Never thought about doing crayons/ playdoh either... so I’m going to give that a go :)

Thanks again!

I feel your pain OP my daughter is 9 months but crawling. I find things like paints etc hard work as it's a lot of effort for maybe 5 minutes of playing then she wants to move on. I try & get out like you but it's not always possible ay?! When we're in we go into a different room every so often & play in there, for a change of scenery. Every day objects like tv remotes, hair brush, looking at photos she loves... she really loves it when I sit & interact with her, singing, lifting her with my legs & playing aeroplane, spinning round.. I put her in her walker when I put the washing machine on & she'll watch that for 5 mins. Even if the weather isn't great I get her coat on & walk round the garden telling her what things are for 20 minutes, or walk her round in her trike (great buy.) I put kitchen utensils into a laundry basket & let her play with that or let her take everything out of her changing bag because apparently that's fun (lol) but yes, terrible mother over here also sits her in her high chair with peppa pig on the iPad every now & then! Only human! Grin

Sorry for the late reply

That’s the thing at this age nothing seems to entertain them for long. I’m desperate for her to get on the move because I’m sure she’ll be able to explore a lot more then and keep her self amused for longer
