Aptamil

My son who is 3 months is sick after most feeds, he's bottle fed and is on aptamil. I've read online about it and quite a lot of mums have said the same thing. I'm thinking of changing milk too see if it makes any difference. Anyone else find the same with this milk?

There have been a few posts about this over on the Infant Feeding Section OP. There is absolutely no harm in swapping. Which one were you thinking of changing to?

Toasttea · 07/04/2018 19:04

@jiltedjohnsjulie oh I will need to go and have a look at that. Thank you. I'm not entirely sure what one to change it too? Possibly cow and gate?

Hi there;

My little girl whose now 28 months was combination fed as a baby, breast and bottle.
Breastfed fine but was sick after aptamil powder. Tried every single other brand all did the same and then my HV had an idea, to try ready mixed formula and I did and it was fine baby loved it so I never bought the powdered stuff ever again.

It is more expensive to buy but worth a try. You would think powder and liquid would be the same but there must be a difference in it somehow. It is also a lot more convenient when you're out and about Smile

Some are swearing by Hipp Organic, others are saying Aldi’s. They all have to follow certain standards so your baby won’t miss out on anything if you do go for a cheaper brand. Some brands just suit some babies better.

Personally, I wouldn’t swap for Cow & Gate if he’s having problems with Aptimil as they are both made in the same factory.

@bellabutterly2016 hiya. I've just heard quite a few people say this about aptamil. We have tried him with the ready made stuff he wasn't so keen he used to wriggle and jump back when he was drinking it I think it was too cold for him (well I'm assuming) so I'm not sure he would go for that but I guess all babies are different. Will try a different Formula and see how gets on then will speak with my health visitor

Is his only symptom the vomiting OP?

MollyDaydream · 07/04/2018 19:24

Some babies are just sicky.

mummyzzzz · 07/04/2018 20:10

Could be struggling with cows milk. I would try nanny care milk which is made from goats milk, and I've got friends who said it made a huge difference when they switched to it.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 07/04/2018 20:15

Please don’t swap to goats milk unless on the advice of a Paeditrician. Nannycare doesn’t meet the standards needed to call it formula as far as I know and if your baby is allergic to Cow’s Milk Protein, then other animal’s milk isn’t advised anyway.

As Molly says, some babies are just sickly but it won’t hurt swapping to another formula milk won’t do any harm.

dementedpixie · 07/04/2018 20:17

Goats milk is now considered ok to use in the UK.

dementedpixie · 07/04/2018 20:17

Goats milk formula I mean

dementedpixie · 07/04/2018 20:20

From nhs:

Goats'milk formula

Suitable from:birth

Different kinds of goats' milk formula are available in the shops. They are producedto thesame nutritional standardsas cow's milk-based formula.

Goats' milk formula is not less likely to cause allergies in babies than cows' milk formula.

Goats' milk formula isunsuitable forinfants withcows' milk allergy(also known as cows' milk protein allergy), as the proteins they contain are very similar.

Sorry, I apologise for my out of date posts! Blush

Toasttea · 07/04/2018 20:29

Well his eyes have started going puffy yesterday so of course I took him to the doctors and was given something for it. She asked if I had changed milk I said no so I'm now wondering if he may be allergic to the formula.

Thank you for all your replies ladies.

Goats milk wouldn't be something I would give him unless I was told by a GP

Aptamil and cow and gate are made by same manufacturer. You may find tough that cow and gate works for you..

My LO had similar problems as yours around same age. We ended up at gp with her and She was prescribed aptamil pepti for intolerance. It's made so much difference to her and us. She's now 9 months and happy.
It's def worth talking to gp. Hope you can get help soon x

Toasttea · 07/04/2018 20:44

@joeytribiani nice to hear a positive story. I will try a different formula like you say it might work for my little one.

If he’s being sick and his eyes are puffy, does he sound anything like this?

burblife · 07/04/2018 21:32

Have you asked the gp/HV about silent reflux? Is he more settled when upright?

yikesanotherbooboo · 07/04/2018 23:01

Is your baby being sick or possetting?
Are they growing, settled , haven't no wet and dirty nappies? If so swap by all means but no need to worry about your child.
