DS is 5 months and no longer enjoys his Baby Bjorne bouncer. He seems to want to be upright more but I'm not sure what would be best to replace his bouncer with?

I've looked at Bumbo seats or jumperoos. Any advice would be welcome!

My dd loves her mamas and papas snug seat which is like the bumbo but has a removable insert so lasts them longer

Teachervoice · 06/04/2018 17:32

Looks good. My son is pretty 'thick of thigh' so do you think he'll fit in it okay?

Is it a good replacement for the bouncer, which he'd typically sit in, in the living room while I fold washing and tidy up around him etc?

My DD is 5.5months and absolutely loves her jumperoo! She also has a seat from mamas and papas which has a little activity table that sits on top which you can also remove so it acts as a tray which is good but I'd definitely say she gets more enjoyment out of her jumperoo Smile

hayleys1 · 06/04/2018 18:04

Just noticed it is the same seat as Gemini mentions!

Mine was bored in the bumbo type seat in minutes. The jumperoo however would Ghiberti me a good 20-30 mins...

bigfishlittlefishtupperwarebox · 06/04/2018 18:07

Give. Don't know where that came from!!

Teachervoice · 06/04/2018 18:14

Does anyone think it might be worth getting both? Jumperoo for when he wants to play and the mamas and papas seat for quieter time?

I'm terrible for over buying so if that's ridiculous, please someone tell me!

Dd is six months- SIL kindly lent us a Bumbo a few weeks ago.

I popped dd in it on the kitchen floor while I was eating my lunch- I was watching her push herself forward. After about a minute, she was nearly launching herself out of it- there’s a very real risk she could topple the thing over. It’s going back to SIL this week!

She’s average sized for her age, I think at five months she’s just past the age where it’s useful- if I’m right they’re designed for babies that can hold their head up on their own, so from three months?

We have a Jumperoo and she LOVES it- it’s great for grabbing 20 mins to do a speed tidy etc. She’d sit in it all day but I try not to use it more than thirty mins a day because it’s not great for their hips.

bigfishlittlefishtupperwarebox · 06/04/2018 18:46

Honestly I wouldn't bother with the bumbo. Stick her in a high chair if you need to, it's the same thing but without legs!

pimlicolife · 06/04/2018 18:59

I have both the mamas and papas floor seat and a jumperoo. My daughter's now 8 months and uses both daily. She still uses the floor seat with the insert in it so I think it will last her ages yet.

pimlicolife · 06/04/2018 19:00

Oh and the floor seats really handy for moving from room to room. I bring it to the bathroom Smile

SophieLouise93 · 06/04/2018 20:00

I’m in the same situation, my daughters 10 months on Wednesday and we have no bouncer/chair for her anymore as she got bored of the previous one so she has nothing to relax in first thing in morning for example so she just has to sit on the floor or on my lap so anyway me with older children, suggestions please?!! TIA

Teachervoice · 06/04/2018 20:12

See, at the moment I take the bouncy chair everywhere, including in the bathroom when I have a shower so it would be a replacement for that. He keeps trying to pull himself forward in it and doesn't like the reclined position anymore!

@dinosaurkisses he's a big boy so the bumbo doesn't sound like it would be ideal!

Another chair would probably be a waste of money at 5 months, invest in a tummy pillow and playmat instead, he won’t be staying still for too much longer. Smile

Teachervoice · 06/04/2018 21:59

@yasmin0147 ah...do you think? He already has a playmat, which he loves and we ditched his pillow weeks ago because he can sit up on his elbows for ages with no problem. I'd sort of forgotten that he'll be mobile soon!

My daughter's now crawling... which is why I still need/use the floor chair sometimes to keep her in one spot!

boopdoop · 07/04/2018 07:03

My DS had v v chunky thighs, and the mamas and papas snug seat was fine, and I think much better then the bumbo. I had both that and a jumperoo.

Jumperoo is fab for keeping them entertained but he'd only last in their a while. The snug seat is great as it's so portable around the house, and when we started weaning he often sat in that rather then highchair.

weekfour · 07/04/2018 08:41

My second child was chunky, and never fit in the bumbo. The Mamas and Papas one is bigger, so will last longer. I’d have a look on eBay or local selling sites. They’re only useful for a few weeks and expensive. We have a non crawling seven month who cries after a few minutes because she wants to be on the move.

On the other hand, I can’t tell you enough about how useful the jumperoo is. They’re bulky and difficult to move but definitely worth it, imo.

Sunrise888 · 07/04/2018 09:16

We had a babyBjorn bouncer and the mamas and papas snug was a good transition when he was able to hold his head up, and to play with toys that could stick on to the table. It is nice for initial weaning too, though some of the plates I bought were too big for it.

Now at 8mo and crawling/pulling up to stand, he still fits in it comfortably but he is too impatient to be locked in. He pushes with his legs so it tilts up, he twists and strains to get out. He'll still eat in it. It varies how patient he is with a toy in it.
