HELP!!! TRAVEL COTS

Please help. It's a long story, so to cut short, we cancelled our much longed for, booked months ago holiday at Mark Warner Praia Da Luz because of what is going on and booked a last minute emergency holiday at Siblu in France (it's some static caravan job) we have 3 year old and 11 month old daughters. Just realised that the travel cot WILL NOT FIT in the bedrooms of the stupid mobile home (why didn't they tell me this?!) and the baby will have to sleep in the living room. Any ideas? I'm so stressed about this whole thing already I just want to cancel again. Can the baby sleep on a normal bed? Maybe with bed guards? Does anyone know of an ultra slim travel cot that would fit in a small space? Is it safe to put a travel cot on a bed? We're going on Saturday. Any ideas at all... please...

Does your baby roll about alot? You can always fix up a bed, mattress on the floor type - or the sofas in caravans usually convert into beds and all sleep in there? Can you have the door open and baby just sleeping in the corridor?

Quootiepie · 10/05/2007 12:17

baby can sleep in bed - depending on the baby. But they are small beds

the beds can't be moved and baby is pretty mobile, would be worried that she would wake up and crawl/fall off the bed. doesn't appear to be enough space to put mattress on the floor. She could sleep in the lounge but we are desperate not to have to creep around all evening fo rfear of disturbing her. Not much of a holiday for us! I know it's selfish. Does anyone make a bedguard that goes all around a normal sized bed?

Can she go in the other bedroom? Can she go in the bedroom, then be moved to the livingroom when you go to bed?

Quootiepie · 10/05/2007 12:24

you cant open up a wardrobe and have the cot half in the wardrobe if it has to floor doors?

cane · 10/05/2007 12:25

little lapin - that sounds like a good idea - do you think it would be safe? (the tethering idea). I've just got the hand of doom over me at the moment - to avoid one holiday because of someone's terrible misfortune only to walk right into my own by accidentally killing the kids doing something daft! (not making light by the way, just feeling ghastly all round.)

Can they provide bedguards ? We went on a canal boats with friends - our ds was 6 months so squeezed in his carrycot, theirs was 18 months and their ds slept on the lowest bunk(practically on the floor) with a guard. Or take a cot mattress (or travel cot one)and wedge it between the bunks

Quootiepie - that is genuis! I knew I could rely on mumsnet!

ensuite bathroom type thing? Bath on a matress?

Quootiepie · 10/05/2007 12:33

bath on a mattress???? Mattress in the bath

ProfYaffle · 10/05/2007 12:35

cot mattress on the floor is an excellent idea, we did that with dd1 last year before we had a Ready Bed.

cane · 10/05/2007 12:38

no space for mattresses on floor! Without baby rolling under the bed! Slumber bumper is great (would help with 3 year old too!) but need to see if they can deliver before we go at 6am on saturday!!

Are you sure the beds aren't enclosed underneath in like on a platform base ?

Quootiepie · 10/05/2007 12:43

half out the door? Just inside when you are up, wheel it into the doorway when you go to bed?

cane · 10/05/2007 12:53

just ordered one of the slumber bumpers - nice chap. Thank you all so much for your help! I love mumsnet, you lot are just brilliant.

We stayed in a Siblu static caravan in France when ours were exactly the same age. They provide a metal cot bed thing, we couldn't get it to work so we took a mattress off one of the bunks and put it next to our bed-she was fine. Which site are you going to?? Ours was Chateau des Ormes-excellent site, have a great time.

cane · 10/05/2007 15:40

was it fun, milamae ? I'm dreading it now!

Ermmmm mostly. The only bits that really weren't were the bed time routine. Trying to amuse one whilst the others were washed etc. Take loads of toys and do loads, I wouldn't sit around the caravan too much. Look on the net for things to do nearby. The site was fab for kids, toddler tents, pools, pizza , cafe etc. Wouldn't have been my thing 4 years ago but obviously times have changed now we have the sproglets in tow. We've got some lovely memories of last year. I think any holiday with under 3s is shall we say not exactly totally relaxing but the memories make it well worth while. We're off to France, farmhouse with m&d this year very cultural but will be missing all those lovely kiddy campsite facilities.
