How long does infant gaviscon take to work?!

DD is 3 weeks old and FF, she squirms around after each feed even though she brings up her wind well. She doesn't particularly cry but appears uncomfortable, she possets a couple of hours after a feed and back arches a lot. We've started her on infant gaviscon, just wondering if anyone else has had the same and how long it took for the gaviscon to make a difference?

By the end of the day we noticed a difference.

Life saver that stuff Grin

Thanks, after her second dose last night she projectile vomited her feed, don't know if she just needs to get used to it or its just not working!

Have you tried anti colic bottles or a comfort formula OP?

@JiltedJohnsJulie not yet, didnt want to change too many things at once and not sure of the success rate of antireflux bottles/milk so wanted to be sure before i paid for them! She seems to be much more settled after feeds, just that one projectile vomit last night that worried me but not had any today so will see how she goes tonight.
Do you think antireflux bottles or milk work as well as/better than gaviscon? If they're as effective id rather use them long term than gaviscon as she's already pooing less.
Its all trial and error isnt it, just unsure what to do for the best.

It didn’t make much difference to us. I persevered for far too long. I went to see the paediatric specialist at our practice who gave us liquid ranitidine. That made a difference within days.

Why are you giving her IG if she's not visibly upset by what is definitely colic? Also before you try anti colic bottles?

Its not nice stuff and will almost certainly constipate her which can make things a whole lot worse.

Get some anti colic bottles and lay off the IG unless you have to give it to her. Was it a GP who prescribed it?

The Dr Brown anti colic worked wonders for us, and our little FF boy had horrific wind. Also told the GP at the 6 week check and she basically told me to come back if it hadn't started sorting itself at 10 weeks. I went off in a huff - she was entirely right! By 10 weeks he was much better, at 16 weeks now, a different baby. It can be just a waiting game unfortunately (unless obviously baby has a specific illness / difficulty causing it.) also was advised against supermarket "comfort" milks etc, as mostly just advertising, and no clinical proof they actually work.

It's definitely reflux not colic, she's visibly tasting the acid/milk 2 hours after a feed, i thought the Dr Brown's bottles were more to help with wind which she doesn't have a problem with. I'm going to the gp this week hopefully so I'll ask them about ranitidine, i would much prefer to use that than IG but wanted to try something ASAP and with it being bank holiday IG was the only thing I could get. It's definitely settled her and there were no vomits last night but already she's started to get constipated so want to swap ASAP
