Summer baby clothing!

Baby no 2 is due in the summer and I feel a bit stupid asking this to be honest... but will a newborn be warm enough in a little cotton romper in the daytime? Or will they still need a sleepsuit for the daytime?

Dc1 was a winter baby and it was very cold so I'm used to layering up a newborn and I'm worried I'll overheat this little one!

Thanks Smile

DS2 was born in the summer (following a winter baby). He mostly wore just a bodysuit, or, if we were going out, and it wasn’t super hot, he just wore a footless romper without a bodysuit.

depends how warm it is! I think the rule of thumb is whatever you're wearing, plus a layer. If it's warm enough for a summer dress for you, then they'll probably be fine in one too plus a cardi

Depends on the weather - if it’s 30 degrees then just a vest, if it’s 15 then sleepsuit and vest, or somewhere in between sleepsuit or romper! My dc1 was born in a hot summer and wore mainly short sleeved vests even at night. Doesn’t last long in this country if it’s hot usually though, but you’ll probably need both at some point!

Vest and sleep suit unless its a crazy heatwave.

My August baby wore a vest and sleep suit most of the time unless very hot and I dropped the vest. UK summer weather mostly meant vest, sleep suit and cardigan though!

Remember you can't put sun cream on newborns so best to have as much of them covered as possible.

Dd is a July baby. She was mostly in sleepsuits, sometimes with a cardi over when outside or a vest under if it was a chillier day.

But there was a heatwave when she was about 2 weeks and was comfortable in short sleeves and short legged rompers.

Layers are still really useful as British weather is so changeable and the mornings and evenings can be quite cold. But a few proper summery things are useful.

Smurfy23 · 31/03/2018 18:08

Dd was born in the heatwave last June. She spent most of her first few weeks in just her nappy or a vest- thats how hot it was then! When it was still hot but not that stifling she was mainly in little rompers with a vest underneath and that was fine.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 31/03/2018 19:01

DD was born beginning of August and it wasn’t warm at all- wasted a load of summer new born outfits as she had to wear a short sleeve baby gro under a long sleeve, hospital said her temp was a little low when born too. In fact the end of September was warmer, you just never know.

It really depended; some days were quite chilly so DD would be in vest and babygrow but some were so hot it’d just be nappy or vest.
I had a couple of cardigans for her but I barely used them

Thanks everyone Smile I won't go overboard on the rompers just yet! I'll wait and see what this summer is going to be like!!
