Could teething interfere with apetite

My dd Is 11 months old and 2 days ago all of a sudden she spiked a temp, her cheeks became rosy and she started dribbling more (no teeth yet but there's one coming through finally but slowly!) and she completely went off food and milk (only wants water so I'm trying to keep her as hydrated as I can) and she became really tired and not floppy.. But less willing to want to try and stand etc. Limbs floppy.

So she seems a bit better in herself now, she's still getting that tooth and I'm keeping her hydrated etc but she's barely eating. I keep offering her solids and she just gags all the time now. At dinner tonight, she had 2 spoonfuls and gagged and made herself sick. I give her porridge for breakfast and again, gagging after a few spoonfuls and then just rejected it and she loves it usually. For lunch I've been giving her salad and vegetables for her to feed herself but she's barely touching it. She usually has around.. 3 bottles throughout the day still, but she's been having 1-2 oz. She will have a full one in the night but last night she didn't.

Could this be teething or is she just a bit poorly still? No temp now, shes okay but not 100% but a lot better than she was

That sounds a bit more than teething to me. Have yiu given her paracetamol and has she improved?

Forevertired19 · 30/03/2018 21:38

I gave her some last night and it didn't help at all really :(

It’s unlikely to b teething then. What’s her temperature now?

I think she sounds poorly to be honest. DS is 9 months and he gets irritable and dribbly when a tooth comes in but doesn't get a temp or go floppy. He is up and down with solids anyway but does enjoy sucking on cool cucumber sticks when teething as I think it's soothing so you could try something like that.

I would

With a floppy 9 month old with a temperature who is barely drinking I would be going to the doctors.

I came to say yes teething can impact on appetite. My dd goes right off food for a few days when she has teeth coming through, and often gets a temperature with it too BUT she always still has has plenty if not more fluids and is otherwise herself apart from grumpiness.

So I think this is more than teething, probably just a virus but I would keep a very close eye on temperature and if things don't improve with calpol/nurofen if it spikes again (nurofen is actually better for temperatures and teething so try that if you have some) I would see if someone could check her over.

If it was my DD I would be giving her either calpol or nurofen every 4 hours anyway until she is visibly feeling better as it must be awful feeling poorly and not being able to tell anyone what hurts.

Agree with ^Making*. If my baby was floppy, was drinking much and wasn’t responding to paracetamol I’d be seeking medical advice as soon as.

I don't need to now, my parents came over that night to take her to A&E but she sorta snapped out of the floppiness after a nap.
She has no temperature now at all and seems okay but still not 100% I can see it in her eyes

My DD was like this earlier in the week although she is slightly older than yours.
I took her to the GP who had her admitted to hospital because of her temperature.
She has tonsillitis which is why she wasn't eating or drinking.
Please take her to be seen, she may need antibiotics, I didn't think my DD was as poorly as she is, got a bit of a telling off by the doctor Blush

Glad she’s a little better. If she gets like that again, I’d call 111 straightaway.

When ds was a baby I remember he had a temp and would gag and vomit on solids. Turned out he had a sore throat.

Little ones can get better before they get worse so please see a dr if you have not already.
