Don't do anything. Treat the whole thing like a regular GP appointment. I do recall our GP saying "well done you!" to DS and DS having a "ooh, what did I do?" type face.
He won't remember a thing.
There may be a few tears and a squeal after it goes in but as you know yourself, discomfort from injections are brief.

Have some Calpol and Nurofen on standby for later if required. I don't think either of mine needed anything though.

Mine had his first chocolate button after his 12 months jabs. He was having chicken pox at the same time so it was a lot of needles. Needles in, opened mouth to scream, chocolate button in, silence!!

Didn’t need any calpol afterwards from what I can remember. You’ll be fine.

Is he having meningitis jab? I think the requirement is that you give calpol at same time.
For previous jabs it was the 24hrs after that were a bit rough. At 12 months it was definitely a more delayed reaction- 3 days later was awful for us. Might be completely fine!

My little one had them 10 days ago. Straight to nursery afterwards and was fine. Much less of an issue than the earlier ones really...

From memory the one year vax's were much more pleasant than the previous ones with less side effects. The Men B one affected DD quite badly when she was younger but her one year ones were fine. Don't dread it- your doing a great thing for your baby and try not the let them pick up on our anxiety.

It was a non event but bear in mind the side effects can come out weeks later because of the incubation periods. We didn't know until we read the leaflet afterwards. Our baby turned into a vomming, wailing banshee 2-3 weeks later, just in time to coincide with our holiday...

Dd1 reacted to the 1 yr vaccinations and was up all night with a fever so definately have calpol ready. She also had a rash a few days and then a week or so after. All of this is expected though and explained in the paperwork they give you.

I know plenty of other children that were fine and had no reactions

moita · 25/03/2018 09:42

My ds cried but was fine as soon as we got outside the room! No reactions, I was prepared for fever etc but he was fine. Went to toddler group the next day.

Don't overthink it it's over in a second !

WishUponAStar88 · 25/03/2018 09:55

They’re fine. 4 jabs(!!) but tears for 2 mins max and then nothing. A couple of the bruises lasted a fair few weeks but they didn’t seem to bother either of mine.

Thank you everyone, I must really try to not be anxious! Sounds like just something else that we will have to go through
