Best Maclaren buggy for a 2 year old?

We have a shitty cheap umbrella buggy which is now becoming the main buggy as DS is two big bow for the 'big buggy'
Lots of people have said the maclaren.m buggies are the best, but there are so many I'm not sure where to start Confused(except for obviously as the cheaper end Grin)

Anyone got a maclaren for a slightly chunky 2.5 year old that thy think is just marvellous?

Get a second hand Baby Jogger City Mini instead. Far far better than a Maclean (I had three Maclarens). Better fold, sturdier, more comfortable for a growing child.

*Maclaren fgs Hmm

sparklefarts · 24/03/2018 13:57

Oh had never heard of that. Shall have a browse on gumtree. Ta!

We've got a Quest as our second buggy and there's still loads of room for my almost 3 y.o 91st centile DD. My 98th centile 14mo DS actually looks tiny in it!

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 24/03/2018 16:18

I'm gonna be 'that person' and suggest not using a buggy at all. At his age its not really needed is it. I say this as someone who doesn't drive, walks everywhere and has three young kids. There's a reason lots of kids are slightly chunky

DonaldWeasley · 24/03/2018 16:27

Fgs. My dd is 3.5 and we still have an ancient baby jogger city mini in the boot. We use it about once a fortnight for various reasons, so we don’t “need” it but it’s still handy for my (not at all chunky) child.

SadieHH · 24/03/2018 16:38

Yeah you totally could make life more difficult for yourself and not get one. It’s not like life with small children isn’t enough of a pain (in a nice way Wink). I mean, why not...

sparklefarts · 24/03/2018 21:02

Ha yes keeping you could be that person. But could you please by that person somewhere else.

My 2 year old wants to walk everywhere, so we let him nearly all the time. Unfortunately he is like most 2 year olds and Gets tired or just simply decides he isn't walking. And I am not carrying for too long as he heavy! Beaus ya know, I let him in the buggy so he's going to get really really fat and lazy.

Thanks for the sensible replies Smile

Ya know what, is been a really really long horrible day so I'm going to bite keeping... why would you even bother replying like that? We all know what the perfect parent parade think.
I was asking for advise on buggies not how I parent. It's quite simple really. So take your judgement and bugger right off.

I had a maclaren quest and then a maclaren techno xt. Techno xt vastly superior in my opinion - cover folds right down when child is asleep, handles arranged so that you can push with one hand (useful if your child wants to walk sometimes!), height of handles adjusts. Also you only need one hand to recline. The quest does none of these things but is smaller and lighter, so maybe more suitable if you are taking it on holiday and space and weight is an issue!

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 24/03/2018 21:15

keeping how do you know if it's necessary or not?? For all you know she could be using it for a two mile school run twice a day while tandem slinging a 1 yr old and a newborn and walking the dog...
However, given that the OP has expressed a desire to get a new buggy I would take that to mean she did indeed feel it was necessary.

sparklefarts · 24/03/2018 21:15

Oh no the one handed pushing would be better, shall check it out! Thank you

I bought a baby Jogger City Mini when my son was three and a half. Its done two children since and still going strong.

happymummy12345 · 24/03/2018 21:25

Op ignore keeping, they clearly have nothing better to do than judge other people.
My son is 2 and a half and is exactly as you describe, loves to walk, but will sometimes get tired and refuse (I had to carry him home from nursery several times which was a struggle, I simply couldn't do it).
Not sure if this will be of any help to you, but we have the silver cross pioneer, but my son got too tall for the seat, so we got the silver cross pop buggy. It's very lightweight, but good and strong. Ans it's roomy, ds is fairly long and has plenty of space. I'd highly recommend it (again I apologise if that's not any good to you, but I wanted to share my experience of it).

Fluffypurpleslipper · 24/03/2018 21:26

We’ve got a Quest which my 3 year old sometimes pops in when keeping isn’t looking. It’s on its second child and going strong.

insertimaginativeusername · 24/03/2018 21:29

Another vote for a baby jogger! I even let my 4 year old hop in when she's tired Wink (and she has no weight problems)

88mph · 24/03/2018 21:34

I LOVE our Tecno XT. It's brilliant. Our oldest was a "chunky" 18 month old when we got it and now my youngest uses it while the oldest has a buggy board it has a decent enough basket soace, the cover can pull right over, the belt can be 5 or 3 point. It's great for taller people (which is why we got it in the first place!) because the handles extend. It's travelled on holiday with us and done well. Folds easily into a boot. I bought one of those cheap pocket attachments that hangs between the handles and it's perfect. Also lots of space to hang a changing bag and not have it bang into the kid when you walk!

CharlieLala · 24/03/2018 21:40

I loved my McLaren XLR (was a few years ago now but pressume they are still around). Had a large seat with seat liner, cosy toes cover thing, laid flat and hood unzipped so you could cover them more when asleep or from the sun
