11 months old having cows milk

Hi everyone.
My daughters turning 11 months and the recommendations is 12 months to have cows milk.
She does have it with her diet but was wondering if it's too soon to give her it in her bottle. Shall I keep giving her the formula as well?

Why do you want to give cow’s milk before the recommendations? DD moves from formula at 11 1/2 months on he recommendation of her dietian.

It is also recommended to drop using bottles at 12 months.

Personally I don't believe hay on midnight before their 1sr birthday they are suddenly with cows milk - I did it around 11 months. Each baby is different and it's pretty close but hold off if you don't want to risk it or try a little bit and see.

Given some in diet is fine, it's not going to harm her, just that formula has more of the nutrients that an under-12-months baby generally doesn't get in their diet. As part of a varied diet, the odd milk bottle when you say haven't got formula with you is fine.

Have to admit, I don't know any baby that gave up bottles by 12mo - mine loved them until over 2 so I checked with the dentist regularly who said it wasn't harming in their case.

I think it depends on how many bottles she’s having and what food she’s eating. Like a PP said, nothing happens at the stroke of midnight at 12 months that means they can magically drink milk instead of formula. Most people transition over gradually.

At 11 months my DS was on 3 bottles of formula a day. I swapped the 1pm one for a cup of milk and a snack. Once he was reliably having some of that I swopped the morning bottle and then the bedtime one we kept til he was about 15 months

Gileswithachainsaw · 23/03/2018 17:28

Think it depends on the circumstances really.

Replacing the milk feeds entirely. No.

But if you are talking at nursery with lunch when she wouldnt t normally have a bottle or popping to a cafe and giving a carton as a drink then I'd say that was ok.

coffeecupplease · 23/03/2018 20:37

I swopped DS to cows milk at about 9 months. He has always eaten very very well, he eats more than my 2 year old! So I felt confident swapping him over only thing I do think it has made him constipated so he has A2 milk now and is ok.

Formula milk has lots of additives (salt, vitamins, fatty acids etc) which are good to ensure your DD has a well rounded diet.

My DD was eating well and had dropped down to a small bottle when she woke up, and before bed, at around 10 months. So we swapped to cows milk then.

If you have concerns over whether she is eating a complete diet, then there's no harm in keeping with formula for a bit longer.

Her 1st birthday isn't a magic date.

Right.

wondering if it's too soon to give her it in her bottle

Well you already said the recommendation is 12 months!

What would be your reasoning??

OrangeHorses · 23/03/2018 20:50

My LO has been having cows milk as a drink since 11 months. She has been fine.

OrangeHorses · 23/03/2018 20:52

She also has all her milk from cups now rather than bottles. She prefers it, finds bottles too slow.

Thank you everyone for your replies.

I didn't mean taking her fully off formula, was giving her just the one bottle of cows milk a day to see how she was with it. (Sorry should of worded it better)

Thank you again Smile
