DS is 21 months and I am on the largest setting on my xl Motherease Airflow wraps.

What would people recomend as a larger wrap? I use Wambamboos and bambenios.

XL nature babies maybe? Or a Rebs XXL?

I have an XL nature babies sat here if you want to see it - I can post it out, and if you want to keep it then just paypal me, if not send it back.

Dragonhart · 08/05/2007 22:35

It is a bit of a stretch at bedtime over his boosted nappy and the waist is starting to leave a mark sometimes. Should be alright for a bit as he has just had a grow so hopefully he wont be growing for a while .

What are nature babies like flame? Is it a popper or velcro? I love my ME Airflows and I am gutted they dont do a bigger one. I know he is a big boy but still. I only bought them afew months ago and he is already nearly out of them!

The xl NBs are popper - but across waist rather than at sides.

If it is for a night nappy more, then wool might be a better option - stretches over hoooooooooooge nappies and is much nicer for night.

Dragonhart · 09/05/2007 20:00

I have been too scared of wool as I just dont 'get' them. Also arent they hard to look after? It is mainly the night nappy as they seem ok for day for now. Are wool wraps very expencive? Also, ds's nappies are pretty stinky and very wet in the morning just from the wee. Would that mean I have to wash wool wraps every time? Are they hard to wash?

I am hoping that ds will magically potty train himself, day and night soon with no help from me at all .

Would stop me having to wash 12 nappies a day!

Wool is easy!

Yes, they are pricey, but if you get two very large ones, you're done.

They need soaking in lanolin overnight - you do it the first time you get them, then once a week for the next couple of weeks (they need about 3 coats to start with).

You don't need to wash them after every use. Something about the lanolin & wee makes it mix together to form a wash and it sort of self cleanses. Just air during the day and they are fine for the next night. They only need washing if there is poo, or if they start to retain a wee smell after being aired for the day (once every couple of weeks here). They need relanolising then after about a month (from the last of the 3 initial ones if that makes sense?!).

If he doesn't normally poo in a night nappy then you will only need to wash when they smell (hurrah!) - most are fine on a wool cycle in the machine. I put mine in with a squirt of baby shampoo in one of the machine liquid ball things.

Lanolin - you can either soak them with solid lanolin (you need to melt the lanolin with some hot water & shampoo, then put in a bucket with enough cool (30c) water to cover them). OR you can buy wool cure - costs more but you just pour it into lukewarm water and you're done.

I love wool Less washing than normal wraps, much more breathable, and nappies are far less stinky in the morning.

The wool works by absorbing the wee and then letting it evaporate out over time - tis good stuff

Dragonhart · 09/05/2007 21:06

DS's nappies make my eyes water in the morning! Are you sure they will not need washing every day?!

How about fleece. That seems an easier fabric to lookafter are they any good?

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 09/05/2007 21:11

Absolutely positive.

Fleece - works in the same way with the wetness evaporating, but needs washing every day and doesn't take the smell away as much.

mumtoboys · 10/05/2007 13:27

I can second wool wraps. They're brill! We had to use a PUL wrap the other night on my 23mth old due to both the wool wraps drying (I hadn't been organised and washed them at the same time) and the smell nearly knocked us out! Didn't realise what a good job they were doing!

kittypants · 10/05/2007 16:06

for cheap no frills wool try disana,i love them.not that nice to look at but cheap and easy.wool is actually easier to use than other wraps imo.less washing, less often!

Dragonhart · 10/05/2007 19:17

Right, you have all convinced me in principal to use wool at night, but the thing is that I am planning on potty training ds soon as he is really showing the signs (was going to do it earlier but was too lazy to do it properly as I am bf dd). So if he does it quickly at night then I have waisted my money (wool wraps seem pretty expencive) but then if he takes a while to train at night then I would be gutted that I didnt buy them now.

What are the best wool wraps, but also cheap?

OP posts:
kittypants · 10/05/2007 19:22

disana!like i said cheap and reliable.nothing gets through them for us anyway!you can get them between £6-8 and if using only at night only need 2.(1 for when other is in wash).love love love them.we tried other wool wraps but didnt really get on with them.or try second hand as wool gets better with use anyway.

Dragonhart · 10/05/2007 19:46

Right, Disana wool wraps only go up to 36lbs in the xl size. DS is that weight now so dont think they are going to be any good. Shame as the pull on ones look gorgeous! Like a jumper for his bottom!

OP posts:
kittypants · 10/05/2007 19:48

you could make one???some good patterns around.

Dragonhart · 10/05/2007 19:53

Sorry, not much of a knitter! Have tried but I end up with a wibbly wobbly tie/scarf!

His waist is 55cm and this seems to be the largest all the wool wraps go up to.

It is really making me fed up. Surely there are lots of big children out there who still need nappies and therefor wraps.

OP posts:
kittypants · 10/05/2007 19:56

i cant knit either!we'll no doubt be having this problem soon as ds is 16 months and big man!

Dragonhart · 10/05/2007 19:59

DS is just from large stock! I am 6ft and my brother is 6ft8 (DH is just a bit tall er than me) so not surprising that he would be big! Dread to think what it will be like to cloth him when he is a teenager. We have already spent about £100 on shoes for him too! Just keeps growing out of them.

Go to pixie knits or Natural Knits for Nippers - both hand knitted so can do whatever size you need, and I think the prices aren't as bad as some iirc

Yes muminfife, they are xl. DS just has a big bottom! I have noticed that one is tighter than the other ones I have so will keep that for day.

Cheers Flame, will contact them to see what they can do for me.
