Cloth nappies and leg / hip development???

I'm just starting out with cloth and my 7-week old dd has worn Tots Bots and muslins folded terry-style (in the Jo Fold).

They do look more bulky than disposables, which isn't necessarily a problem, except I've also noticed that my dd can't move her legs as much and can't bend her knees very much at all.

My question is: is this normal? And if so, does it matter? Doesn't it limit babies' ability to kick and build up their leg muscles / develop their hips??

Or am I doing it wrong?!! Maybe she should be in a different type of nappy?

Thanks for any advice!

is okay

in some cases it prevents surgery with children who have hip problems as it promotes normal development

worry not about the big fat nappy

makes no difference in my experience
dd2 wore cloth from about 10 weeks and she was crawling at 5 months and getting up stairs at 8m, and walking early too

dd3 (also in cloth) is just starting to crawl at 8m

so they are all different
(but maybe are her nappies too tight?)
I wouldn't be worry about it

As cappucino says the nappy will actually hold your babies legs in the best position to encourage their correct development. That said most babies do not need this as their hips are fully developed by birth. The one thing that does cause a problem for hip development is swaddling babies. If you are concerned I would say make sure you baby has the oppertunity for "nappy off" time each day, most babies love this. You will find that once you DD has grown a little your nappies will seem a lot less restrictive

SBN - didn't know about swaddling and potential hip probs. I'm still swaddling DS at 9wks at night and the (rare) occasions when he sleeps in his cot during the day - should I stop??

BTW I was brought up in the bulkiest terries around (showing my age as a baby of the 60s ) and have good strong hip & leg muscles
