nappies at nap time?

DS1 is 2 yrs 4m. The nursery have said he is ready to potty train so I've got the mounds of pants ready....
But one question that I can't find an answer to in everyone else's threads is:
He doesn't have a nap at nursery, but on home days I get him to do long walks alongside the pram with DS2 in it, to shops, playgroup etc. Same on Sat and Sun if we take them to the park. When we get home mid afternoon he is shattered and can nap very soundly for a couple of hours. Should I put a nappy on him for the nap? Or is part of being 'bladder aware' that he will wake up if he needs to go? He is ready on most of the things that they say you should look for, its just this one thing! Don't want to put him down for a nap and find a wet bed when I go to wake him up!
He is so lazy/sound sleeper that recently when he had a vomiting bug, we went to check on him in the night and he had puked all over and was lying in it!!! Fast asleep!!! so I'm not sure he'd wake up if he wanted a wee!! Please advise, I am off to bed now but look forward to any help arriving while I'm getting my beauty sleep. (well as a mum of two, just a bit of uninterrupted sleep would be nice... given up on being beautiful...).

My DS is 3.1; he doesn't wear a nappy for his 90 minutes nap at nursery (where he is Monday to Thursday) but I still put him in a nappy for naps at home because I let him snooze for as long as he likes and he's often asleep for two hours or more. Sometimes he's dry when he wakes, sometimes he isn't. If I were you, I would put him in a nappy for his nap, so you (and he) don't have to worry about wet beds.

I'd definitely start off with a nappy then just see how often it's dry when he wakes. Once you get to the point where it's regularily dry you can leave him without. Pampers bed pads are good if you haven't discovered them yet - like a giant nappy you put under the sheet, so it's soft unlike a rubber sheet but also really absorbant

i always start with a nappy as well

so long as it goes on only immeditly before saying 'good night' and comes off as soon as you get them up i odnt think it sends mixed messages...

while my 2.5 charge no longer needed a nappy for her day time nap, another of my charges still needed a nappy for his nap aged 4...

2.5 year old is now 5 years and still in night nappies, where as 4 year old managed to give up day and night nappies around the same time ie 4.5.

it depends on the child...

if maybe after a week the nap nappy is consistently dry then you can think about leaving it off imo

my DS2 is around the same age at 2yrs 5mths, i don't put a nappy on him for his naps even though he will nap for 1-2 hours. The reason behind this for me is that i found putting a nappy on him during the day confused him and he didn't know when to use the potty and when not to, so we now don't use one at all during the day he just a has a 'bedtime' nappy. I put him on the toilet before his nap and immediatley when he wakes up and so far (fingers crossed) we haven't had any accidents during his naps. However I did use the pampers mats with my other children when they were first becoming dry at night and they are fab! Good Luck!!

I agree with sparklesandwine, and I didn't put them on. mine weren't having naps in bed, would just fall asleep on the sofa sometimes in the afternoon, and I would slip an old towel under them in case.

dd is 2yrs3mnths and has a nappy at night but not for naps.

she doesn't nap at all most days but she does sometimes fall asleep in the car or on the couch if she's sick and it's easier jst to leave her and change her pants if she wets

DS1 is almost 2.3yrs. He is dry through his naps and is dry all day providing he is naked from the waist down. As soon as he has pants and/or trousers on he'll forget the potty and wet himself. Or he'll try sitting on the potty still with clothes on.
He can pull trouser and pants up and down so this is not the issue.
Any thoughts?
(I am a name changer btw )
