When to stop using talcum powder

Morning ladies,

Just wanted to put the question out there, when is it ideal to stop using talcum powder in my LO nappies? Becoming a little writer and harder to apply! Still want to use it at night and after a bath.

I can’t envisage what you’d use it for. Its use is generally discouraged for children now as there are some safety concerns.

There’s a link to ovarian cancer from talc used perineally. Think it’s quite discouraged these days to use it on babies.

We use it at the beach, it’s brill for that!

People still use talc? Wtf

May have used on very odd ocassion when dc were little, all grown now. But with all the bad things I have heard, I wouldn't want to use it on dc's or under their nappies.
I do use some on myself occassionally prior to waxing but not much.

Steeley113 · 15/03/2018 08:57

Why would you put talc in nappies? Fair enough after a bath but after every nappy change?

The ovarian cancer risk is real.
My sister warned me about the cancer risk 30 years ago. She was warned about it at medical school.

I've never used it on any of my children and hope my mother never used it on me.

TroubledLichen · 15/03/2018 09:02

I think the ovarian cancer connection, including the case in the US where the lady sued and got compensation, is thought to be from talc use prior to the 1970s when it still contained asbestos. I definitely wouldn’t put it in a baby’s nappy though, especially not a girl’s just in case.

VileyRose · 15/03/2018 09:03

Never used it.

Notproudofthisone · 15/03/2018 09:05

Came on to see if I’m meant to be using it for something, I’ve never used it all! What’s it for?

babyharibo17 · 15/03/2018 09:09

Troubled that's not right. Talc acts like asbestos. It's a foreign body and causes inflammation which can lead to the development of ovarian cancer.

Please don't use it x

TroubledLichen · 15/03/2018 09:33

baby talc definitely used to contain asbestos up until the 70s, we know for a fact that’s carcinogenic.

Research is ongoing regarding the modern formulations of talc, based on very limited evidence, the IARC identifies talc body powders applied to the genital area as a possible carcinogen so no way would I risk using it myself nor would I use it on a baby so we’re in agreement about that. It’s horrible stuff, OP please stop using it.

Well, this is always guaranteed to get a bit of a barney started!

Save it for the beach.
