14 month gap - 2 cots?

Hello, so I'm currently pregnant with dc2 and there will be a 14 month age gap between them. My dd was a sizeable baby and I managed to eek out 4 months in the crib before transfer to cot, and if that happens again this time then dd would be about 18 months old. My mum seems to think I will probably need 2 cots as I think I was in one until nearly 3 (didn't like the bed), but I'm wondering if it's really worth getting another cot for the sake of a few months?
Thinking a toddler bed is probably the most practical solution, but I'm worried about her getting up in the night and poking plugs etc
Anyone been in this situation and got some advice?

Mine had cot beds, same age gap.

I put then 18 month DD into a single bed with a safety rail in her own room instead of bothering with a toddler bed a few months before DC2 was born. She took to it well and has slept every night since so I was lucky. Before that she was in a cot in our bedroom.

Will be putting baby into the cot in his own room when he outgrows the next2me :)

It all depends on the child, she may take to a bed ok even if you didn't Smile

Forgot to say that around that age she kept climbing out of the cot and falling to the floor so it was definitely time to change to a bed she could get in and out of herself!

Mine were in beds at 18 months, bed guards and gate on the door.
Unless you're planning on leaving her a pair of paperclips to play with then I wouldn't worry about sockets.

14 Months between my youngest 2, I put the oldest in to a toddler bed with bed guard a few weeks before I thought the baby would be ready to go from crib to cot, gave us a few weeks to see how the older one took to it, but it was all fine. Personally I wouldn’t bother buying another cot.

I have an 18 month age gap.

I ended up having 2 cots, one was a sizeable cot bed and the other a smaller cot from Ikea.

DS1 was in the larger cot until he was nearly 3, then into a bed. DS2 then got the larger cot (still in it at 20 months, not going to a bed anytime soon) and the smaller cot went to a family member.

Yes get a 2nd cot, my friend ignored this advice and could not understand why her 18 month old would not stay in their bed and was upset at baby in their cot. They also stopped napping...

If it ain't broke....

Mine were in continental cots with one side removed until they were 4 and they weren't small for age quite the opposite.

Expecting ds in 3 weeks, DD will be 14 months, we have 2 cots.

Thank you for your experiences. I think we will wait until baby is here and thinking about going into a cot and see how dd is. The cot we have at the moment can have the side removed so could try that in the months leading up and see how she goes with that
