Hello all,

I have a 7 week old baby and am supposed to be going out to the gym today to take my 2 year old to go swimming. I am not able to find a baby sitter so wanted to know if I could take my 7 week old swimming.

I know I took Josh swimming when he was a baby but can not remember at what age he was and I know that babies take to water very well.

Can anyone give me advice if 7 weeks is to soon or is it ok..... Thanks

You can take them from any age but if you are taking them on your own, the pool may not let you in with 2 children so young. Our pool policy is 1 parent to 1 child under 7 - i.e. you would need 2 adults to take a 7 week old and a 2 year old.

Thats Ok - I am suppsoed to be going swimming with my sister so there will be two adults. It was just weather I can get in and join them with my DD.....

Thanks for this as I was sure it was the case and now have some peace of mind...

same here, 2 adults if 2 children.
esp if they dont have a life guard on duty.

do you have to be beside your 2 yr old in the water for the class

we took ds swimming for the first time at 15 weeks, but i think anytime is fine. i have heard that they need to hold their heads up, but i don't see why. how is your lo in the bath? and how warm is the pool? don't forget that small babies can get very cold very quickly, which was something i didn't bargain for the first time i took ds swimming. bear in mind that your 2yo may have his swimming cut short because of whingey baby...

theUrbanDryad · 06/05/2007 10:42

couldn't your sister look after the baby while you go in with 2yo?

Mistiek · 06/05/2007 10:45

The plan is for DS to stay with my sister and for DD to be with me so that if she does not like it and starts winging then I can take her out with out my son having to get out...

thanks for all the advice

aha - good plan!

it's good for babies to be taken swimming...most of them love it and they sleep well afterwards! so....bonus!

the first time we took ds swimming he loved it for about 20 minutes then he did a poo in his swim nappy and didn't have so much fun after that!!

Is it better that they have had their 1st lot of jabs or is that juist for nursery? Just a thought.

foxybrown · 06/05/2007 10:51

I remember being told best wait for their jabs.

theUrbanDryad · 06/05/2007 10:52
