When to stop giving baby bottle

My daughter is going to turn 1 in the next couple of weeks. She is completely weaned onto solids. Maybe has 1 or 2 bottles of formula a day. This is more for comfort than hunger. Otherwise she just has water from a beaker with food. I know that after 12 months they're meant to be given cows milk but I just wanted to get some advice on how to start this. Do I completely stop formula and start cows milk or is it best to gradually introduce cows milk? And should I completely stop the bottle or should this be a gradual process as well? Any advice would be great.

I think the recommendation between 1 and 2 is a minimum of 300 ml of full fat cows milk a day. I think it’s also recommended to drop the bottles.

Some people do this all in one go and get rid of the bottles and offer cups. Some do one feed at a time.

Some people swap to cows milk straightaway, some replace one ounce of the formula with one ounce of cows milk, gradually doing this until it’s all cows milk.

However you do it, it’s entirely upto you Smile

I went cold turkey on bottles when he turned one and offered formula in a sippy cup. DS wasn't happy at first but didn't take long for him to accept it.

I only did this as I'm pregnant and didn't want to have to deal with a new baby and getting him off bottles at a later stage.

Regarding milk I cut down an ounce each night of formula and replaced it with cow's milk. Again he quickly got used to just having cow's milk.

Save so much money not buying formula and I was fed-up with sterilising bottles.

I got to halfway through a tin and swapped to cows milk in a sippy cup in the morning and formula at bedtime. Once the tin ran out cows milk at bedtime too.

@EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic I didn't realise that was a recommendation, what do you do if your DC will only drink water? DC weaned off of breastfeeding just after 1 and won't touch formula or cows milk (or juice when he was constipated).

Have you tried them again with the milk? Both of mine had a period after they had stopped Bfing before they would touch cow’s milk at all.

If they won’t touch milk at all, it’s important to not only replace the calcium but also the fat and protein. Oily fish is brilliant for this. Try fish with bones as it’s a good source of calcium, protein and healthy fat.

We did try recently and nursery also tries during morning snack but he just doesn't seem to like it, and nursery can usually convince him to have anything.

He does like salmon, we'll try and feed more of it to him and add extra milk to his mashed potatoes. He loves butter too and can be a bit of a butter fiend!

Things like weetabix are good as they soak up lots of milk. Also there is calcium in certain veg and baked beans.

My tip is to introduce cold milk. So much handier!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I might invest in another beaker/cup for her milk. Think I'll try cold turkey and see how it goes.
