How do I prevent spreading my stomach bug into my 9 week old :-(

Hi

I’m panicking as I seem to have come down with a stomach bug this morning. Any tips on how I make sure my 9 week old doesn’t catch it. OH (other half) is working long shifts and I live 100+ miles from family.

Also is it possible that I have caught Rotavirus as my LO (little one) had his vaccination a week ago. And if so would he therefore be ok as he has had the vaccination?

You need to disinfect taps, loo handle, toilet door handle, either with bleach solution or antiseptic wipes. Wash your hands with hot water and soap and dry them thoroughly, keep changing the towel through out the day.
I've done this and stopped bugs spreading.

Don't know about vaccinations though, sorry.

Good luck with it.

And don't kiss him!

Is he breastfed?

I had a stomach bug when my baby was 8 weeks old. Firstly are you breastfeeding? If you are, there is antibodies in your milk that help protect the baby. If not, there isn't much you can do except being hyper vigilant with washing hands and not kissing, and washing towels and sheets and just trying to stay as germ free as possible.

It's hard as at 9 weeks, babies want holding virtually all the time. If you're really struggling, call the doctors and they can prescribe ani sickness and diarrhoea tablets. Imodium works well to stop diarrhoea. And buscam is a good anti sickness tablet.

(Can you tell I'm ill a lot Wink)

Hope you're feeling better soon!

Thanks everyone. I’m not breastfeeding unfortunately :-(

Hope you get well soon. Try not to worry, you are doing a great job and obviously love your little one. He will be getting all he needs , but you can still offer breastmilk - he may be happy to comfort feed and this will stimulate milk production

I was told not to take anti diarrhoea tablets if you have a stomach bug. This is because it keeps the bad bacteria in your stomach for longer when you really need your body to expel the virus. Take mineral sachets no problem. I just had a bug but luckily my 8 week old seems to have escaped it

Faze is right that they don't recommend them as it's obviously best to get all the bad stuff out. But they can be helpful for letting you get a few hours sleep when you've been in the bathroom for 2 days. If things are that bad I mean. Hope you're feeling better.

It won't be rota because that's something children get.

I think handwashing, changing clothes and being fanatical about hygiene with bottles is the key. Or getting someone else to look after LO for the day which is an advantage of bottle feeding in infection control.
