How much TV/screen time do your DCs get?

DSs, 9 and 7, have about 30 minutes to 1 hour a day from 7-8pm. I think this is too much but it's hard to change habits. DS1, 9, also keeps getting up early and watching TV if we ban it in the evening which I find hard to police as I am getting ready for work/showered. What is the recommended level and how to you get DCs to cut down? I hate the way it's a battle to switch off in the evening and get them into their rooms to do reading. Bedtime seems to be getting later and later.

Do you seriously think that's too much tv?

Sounds like a fun household.

DS2 enjoys his ps4 and is on it a lot more than usual. I'm being more lenient of late as he's being put under a lot of,pressure at school re Year 6 SATs.

Generally, I've relaxed a lot more about screen time. DS2 is bright, sociable and is doing very well at school. Gaming is this generation''s way of relaxing just as watching TV was mine.

A bit after school whilst I'm cooking , then a programme each from CBeebies after bath before bed so probs 1.5 ish hours a day, more at weekends and holidays.

A lot more than that! I would not be worried about 1 hour a day - not at all.

Not so much in a morning maybe 10 mins if they're ready for school early but after school it's on constant either watching a film tv or on the Xbox. They will happily come off it to eat tea, do homework, do a few chores etc but always go back to it.

I think in the winter it's hard not to have screen time, but come summer I know they'll be outside all they can on the park playing football so it's swings and roundabouts

Way more than your children have.
