Is it time to give up?

I'm sure DS (2+4months) is ready to be potty trained. He can go for 2-3hours without a nappy on and not have any accidents at all. He can poo on the big toilet and he wants to wear pants. Today I let him wear pants instead of a nappy and kept reminding him about using his potty, well he had 3 accidents! When he does sit on his potty, he won't leave his bits alone! I tried to get him to go standing up in the garden because he said the potty hurts! DD was much easier to potty train, I haven't got a clue with boys!

my ds was a bit older - 2 years and 8mth (I think) and we seemed to bypass the potty and go striaght to the toilet sitting down. Boys do tend to be a bit slower at catching on at quite what to do, but it does sound as if your ds knows whats happening. Was he distracted today ?, keep trying but if it gets too demanding, ask him if what he wants to do, I'm sure he will let you know if he feels he is ready to be without a nappy. Have you tried pullups ?

I think it a good sign that he has managed to do a poo, because quite often, that is the thing they hate doing most. If you get him to go on the toilet rather than the potty, he may feel really grown up being able to 'go' like his sister. HTH

Oh nearly forgot .... I was actually told by someone, that it is easier to have them sitting down on the toilet, so if they are going for a poo, they can wee too, rather than confusing them about having to turn around. If it all gets too much, try again in a few weeks time

Give it a few more days i would say. I personally would not let him go in the garden because I think that is confusing for him. Keep going to the loo. If he's cracked it with the poos, he should do OK.

I'd keep going a few more days too and I also dont think going in the garden is such a good idea as you want him to associate the toilet/potty with getting his willy out etc, not just weeing whenever and wherever he feels the need.
For what it's worth, we went straight to standing up using the toilet and passed on the potty and sitting down, apart from poo time of course. We made it fun by saying he was putting a fire out with his firehose (he was very into Fireman Sam at the time) and the classic of course "doing it like daddy does"

Good luck.

It took my DS about a week, to really catch on, so I would hang on for a few more days. My DS also complained that the potty hurt him, we invested in one more like This type which went down very well. Used it for a few months then it mysteriously disappeared when we got back from holiday! Now 4 months on he stands to wee at the toilet.

right, we'll give it another go tomorrow. He does seem to try and wee but he says 'its not working!' He is also obsessed about standing up to do it but I'm a bit concerned about his aim!
So day 1 = 3 accidents, what will day 2 bring?

Good luck with the potty training Kid.As he wants to Stand up why not put a ping pong ball in the loo and tell him to aim at the ball.My Dh said this is how he was taught to pee standing up

I've been ill so gave potty training a miss for a while but we started again today. No nappy on for about an hour this morning. I kept asking DS if he needed his potty. I was in the kitchen when he came running in to announce that he had done a wee wee. I was delighted to find that he had actually managed to get half of it in the potty (the other half went all over the floor!) I was really pleased with him. Got DS to choose a pair of pants for today and 1/2 hour later, he stood at the garden door and wet himself! I'm still chuffed that he managed to go on his potty though, first time ever!!! He is just havign a nap now with a nappy on, and I'll encourage him to go on the potty again when he wakes up.
