19month age gap pushchairs

hi,
posting here for traffic, have previously posted in the pushchair section but still at a lose what to buy.

so when baby 2 arrives there will be a 18-19month age gap.

i have a silvercross pioneer just now which i do love but to from street level to my property i need to go up a flight of stairs, along a narrow path then up more stairs to my door so that alone with 12month is heavy. i also live on a very hilly street.

went shopping last week and bought a few things including a bag of potatos and never passed out getting home. haha

anyway i really love the idea of a convertible pushchair so dont need to push around empty seat when older one wants to walk more but really really dislike the ones where the second child is practically in the basket. (plus they dont look like they can easily be taken up and down steps)

i'm starting to think all convertibles that arent second seat in basket are going to be pretty heavy - but happy to have suggestions if you have one.

starting to think keeping silver cross and buying a second light weight tandem pushchair is the way to go.

so recommendations are needed for either non heavy, convertible pushchair, that doesn't have second seat in basket

or

lightweight tandem that is suitable from birth.

good job im not asking alot eh?

side by side no use as wont fit through my gate. street level is too far to take pushchair out and go back for kids

TIA

Have you considered the mountain buggy duet, I know you don't want side by side, but it's main selling point is that it is almost as narrow as a single seat stroller.

This is what we will be getting in the next few weeks (14 month age gap).

First instinct with your situation is a sling. Sling +walking toddler for very short trips and sling plus light weight fold away for longer trips. I have a 19 month gap and love my Phil and Teds, we don't drive do it's worked really hard! You can remove the second seat really easily. My two are 2.7 and just turned 4 now and at a push they can still both get in it if they're both knackered!

i did look at the mountain duet but when measured wont go through my gate. my single just goes through with about an inch to spare.

thats why im now thinking of keeping the silvercross and wearing a sling or have older walk/buggy board but that would be good on small trips or when hubby is with me with the car as i dont drive.

i saw the phil & teds but dont like the look of second child in the basket

Have you looked at the nipper 360 side by side - I think it's slightly narrower than the duet? I've heard some people say they can get through narrow doorways with a bit of a wiggle as it's triangle shaped iyswim. It is an amazing buggy, soooo easy to push. Side by side is far better for napping, basket access and child view and comfort than tandems IMO - if you can make one work with your gate...

If not - the uppababy vista 2015 (or later) is the best tandem I think. I had a phil & teds but it's hard to steer and doesn't work if they both need to nap.

Buggyboard depends on weather and whether you can trust child not to get off (bear in mind a compliant 18 mo can turn into a non compliant 2 yo!) I would definitely want a double buggy with that age gap, unless you're willing to sling the little one for a looong time.

I felt the same about the second seat, imagined my poor second born shoved in the boot! We saw one for £80 on e bay and thought it was worth a punt. Actually dd loved being in the back (especially the cocoon when she was tiny)and still sleeps better in there now, although she has about 5 mm of head room left now! It's good on public transport too because it has such a small footprint. We had 3 buggies when she was little, a cheap fold away one, a Quinny Buzz (we bought that for ds when he was born)and the Phil and Teds. I also had a Caboo close sling then a Connecta and used them in conjunction with the single buggies.

yeh i agree i definately want a double. i wouldnt put dc1 on a buggy board until older than probably 2yrs away. but i loved babywearing so fully intend in doing it again which is why a convertible is my first choice, so i only need one buggy and have choices.

in the phil and teds i just think the bottom seat looks so cold, it looks to bare and exposed. i'd like both to be in proper seats.

will have a look at the uppababy vista too

Have a look at the baby jogger city select - single to a double and seats can go in all the configurations. You will want a buggy that can have a good buggy board when your first child gets bigger. I have the same age gap and have the bugaboo donkey which is great but very wide.
