What did you buy your LO for their first birthday?
DD is fast approaching and I have absolutely no ideas what to get her.
Any top toys etc that I should consider?

We bought DD a kitchen for her first birthday & a teepee for her 1st Christmas (she was about 15months old) - both probably a bit old for her but we knew she'd get lots of use out of them.

We threw DS a birthday party in the house and hat was his gift from us. We also did a cake smash photo shoot the week before. he got a couple small gifts from us on he day - a baby trampoline and a peppa pig mucky puddle (which he loves). The day was so busy with a house full and he was knackered by the end of it so hardly noticed his new toys. Even all the gifts guest gave him, we opened the next morning and he was more interested in the wrapping paper. Sometimes I think it's a case of buying for the sake of buying at that age!

Something for outside, a ride on/in car, sandpit etc? DS wasn’t walking at 1 so it was tricky, I didn’t want to get him baby toys but he wasn’t quite at the level of toddler toys. So inevitably you get them stuff for the next year of development.

We got a couple of little toys and annual passes for our local zoo. It worked out great, we went loads (actually renewed them for a second year) as it has really good playgrounds, indoor soft play etc. She already had lots of toys and presents from grandparents etc so it was a good option for us.

Grandparents did get him this little kitchen that doubles as a walker and lots of plastic food - he plays with that a lot too!

We got her a teepee, which stayed up for 4 months and hasn't been touched in the last 10 Blush, only get one if you have a lot of spare space

Tinkhasflown · 22/02/2018 11:28

We got Dd1 a smart trike that has been used by all 3 kiddies. My ds got a little ride on car that was about £20 and he adores it! He is nearly 2 now and the kitchen and sand/water table are his favourite toys.

DinoSn0re · 22/02/2018 11:29

Our daughter had a kitchen from GP and a teepee and Scuttlebug from us. All well used and loved a few months down the line!

A garden! Just a small square of the main garden that she now grows her own plants and strawberries in. A bit weird for a 1 year old you may think but she really loves it and as far back as she can remember it has been hers.

mamahanji · 22/02/2018 14:54

Grandparents bought her a little tykes car which is her favourite thing ever.

We bought her a ball slide thing. Really love wooden one with lots of different shapes and balls that click clack down it. She spends ages sitting and playing with that by herself.

Ikea kitchen which I gave a makeover! Painted it and added stuff etc!
He's 2.5 and still loves it!
We didn't do a party so the money I saved I spent on his little kitchen! Also some other little bits and bobs
He was spoilt by family tho so we didn't need to buy him much at all

Also agree with the sand and water table, will be perfect to have during the summer!

A wooden ride-on toy that got LOADS of use.
