Nappy leaks in the car seat

My 4mo DS has recently taken to pooing while in the car seat. And on more than one occasion now this has resulted in leakage down the leg, through the clothes and onto the car seat covers Confused. This is especially unhelpful when we are staying away in a hotel for a night like right now!

I am just wondering if I am doing something wrong/using wrong nappies? He is 6.8kg (15lb 2) and long and slim. He wears size 3 pampers. TIA!

I have no advice re the nappies but I have a waterproof car seat liner which someone gave me when DD was born which has been a godsend. Can just chuck it in the wash. Would never have thought to buy it myself but so glad we have it. Can get them on amazon. Good luck!

PotatoesOfTheCarribean · 20/02/2018 20:27

Try switching nappies, pampers always leaked with mine. Lidl and Sainsbury's were both good.

I used to put an terry square or a couple of muslins under them when they were in the car seat

pastabest · 20/02/2018 20:30

I always found pampers leaked.

Preferred virtually all of the supermarket brands above them.

You are pulling the frilly bits on the leg holes out aren't you?

I think the size 2 pampers in theory go up to 6kg so he’s not that much over that and if he’s skinny the size 3 might be loose. Have you tried sizing down for car journeys? Also make sure the ruffle bits round the edges of the legs are out. Finally get those disposable changing mats and sit him on one so in case of leakage it can go straight in the bin and you shouldn’t need to clean the seat.

RoryAndLogan · 20/02/2018 20:31

Pampers always leak for us. I like boots or Morrisons the best.

Abetes · 20/02/2018 20:31

Pampers always leaked with dd1 but Huggies didn’t. I’d try a different brand.

GummyGoddess · 20/02/2018 20:36

I've found that all the disposable ones leak! Dc comes home from nursery in a different outfit almost daily. They use the Tesco ones so I would suggest avoiding those.

englishnose · 20/02/2018 21:00

No advice, but same thing with mine! 😂 I don't know why they like pooping in the car so much!

Redpramlady · 20/02/2018 21:03

Aldi ones worked best for mine!

doublew · 20/02/2018 21:03

Thanks for the advice. I had meant to add that yes I do always make sure the frills are out. I like the idea of the liner, will definitely hunt that down. And try switching brands too perhaps when we get through our stockpile of Pampers. When we moved him from size 2 to 3 he was shorter and fatter and the size 2s were barely going round his tummy. He seems to have just stretched out lengthways since then!

Currently on 3rd dc in disposable nappies and its never even occurred to me to turn frills out 🙈🙈🙈, I’ve not even registered them tbh.

I’ll just go crawl back into my hole.

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 20/02/2018 21:14

DS went through a phase of this, despite my best efforts to prevent it. Turned out he had the habit of pulling his legs up to his chest when having a dump in the car seat meaning the strap between his legs put too much pressure on the middle of his nappy and everything was forced out of the sides Confused He grew out of it after a month or so!

sthitch · 20/02/2018 21:16

Literally had the same issue as you- once you’re through the nappies, try the size 3 Tesco purple coloured pack nappies- all the others let us down but these have been great and are only £3.50 for 50.

I would go with the Muslin on the seat or buy some of those dry nights pads and cut one in to 1/4 as they are quite big and put it on the seat until it dries/been cleaned out at home properly. You can use the pads after for nappy off time.

doublew · 24/02/2018 11:07

Ok we switched to purple tesco nappies but no luck. Just had the worst leak ever (I keep saying that and they keep getting worse Sad).

Any other suggestions? And what to do with 48 tesco nappies and about 50 pampers? (I guess I will work my way through them and play russian roulette with which one is going to get the poo! Grin)

My daughter also uses her car seat as though it were a toilet Confused have you tried pointing the tabs downwards at a 45 degree angle when fastening (instead of horizontal) - it can make a tighter fastening around the leg? Make of nappy made no difference for us, pampers was always decent though. At least it's not up his back too, those ones are grim!

doublew · 24/02/2018 11:40

Thanks will try that with the tabs. Today's incident happened at home (while DH was putting the covers back on the car seat from the last incident) so at least we don't have to clean the damn seat again. But it went all up the back, in his armpits, down his legs to his toes. It was grim! Luckily DH was around to help me bath him and keep him in the bath while I anti-bac'd the changing mat. God knows how I would have coped alone!

It also got DH's dressing gown, which I was wearing as mine is in the wash covered in sick!

Oh no, sounds like a bad start to the day! Hopefully the tab thing helps. The suggestion of a liner sounds good, will keep that in mind for when we potty train.

Sparky888 · 24/02/2018 13:23

I use 4+ pampers babydry on my smaller and younger baby. They look big, but the keep more explosions in!

sthitch · 24/02/2018 13:57

aww I’m sorry the Tesco ones didn’t work for you, we have a long and slim baby so I really thought they would work for you!! Hope you find some soon!!

ODog · 24/02/2018 20:15

DD went through this. I think it’s more to do with being scrunched in the little seats than the nappies. I used to line the car seat with a thin towel (I cut slits in them to slit straps through). You can get some that are a perfect size in ikea for 20p. Lots of changes of clothes. It was a grim but fairly short phase (2-3 months!)

sthitch · 24/02/2018 20:24

These are small as well and will save a leak (we use them for nappy off)you can rip where you need the car seat holes to be
