Baby loses tiny mind when there's food in the vicinity.

So, weaning has been very successful.
Perhaps too successful.
Our baby is 7mths and he is just crazy for food, loves it.
Whenever we have food around him, whether it's for him or not, he gets utterly furious until it's in his mouth.
Tiny fists curl up and bang the highchair, he yells and goes bright red, and none of this stops until we feed him.
At the moment it's funny, but there's a fair chance that it won't continue to be so if he keeps it up.
Any suggestions as to how we nip this behaviour in the bud?
Should we secretly be preparing food and taking it in turns to eat in the bathroom where he can't see us?

My youngest was a bit like that - I still remember the wails when he had a breadstick in each hand and was eating them both but then realised this meant he didn't have two Breadsticks anymore and what he really wanted was a breadstick in each hand to hold and one in his mouth to eat BUT he only had two hands. OMG the rage Grin

Also DS was good at identifying the Cadburys purple. And would get very upset if there was something purple that was not chocolate.

@AuntFidgetWonkhamStrongNajork Yes! DS also can identify that particular shade of purple even if he hasn't seen that particular chocolate before. It's a nightmare trying to walk past the easter egg aisle at the moment. I'm literally turning my body at a weird angle and walking sideways until we've passed Blush

This thread is bloody fantastic! I thought my dd was the only one! She ate her lunch before mine a while ago (not long before mind, probably about 10 mins!!) and then saw I had something foody. Craning her neck round to see what it was and then whinging. So I ate it behind my legs up on the sofa so she couldn't see. Every time she heard a rustle her head span straight back round with a curious furious look Grin

Asked 18mo DS yesterday if he wanted a biscuit. Stopped what he was doing, fixed me with an earnest look and said Nooooo.
Pretty sure that you meant yes DS but good try 😂

My DS 11 months likes to have a bit of food in each hand then eat another bit of food straight off the tray with his mouth. It's cute now but wont be when he's 5.

@0123fluffyunicorn We have a peninsula bit in our kitchen. I'm reduced to crouching behind there while DC is eating so I can eat without him demanding it. Got to take it out of the wrapper first though or he starts making noises about wanting whatever I have.

In my 7th month of pregnancy I am very impressed I can crouch down and get back up again!

You should be eating with him, it's a bit rude to sit and eat and not feed him too, he instinctively senses this and is trying to correct your behaviour.

I jest, but seriously. Feed the baby.

Qvar · 21/02/2018 12:53

Ds1 used to bellow in between mouthfuls

I started giving him half a bottle of milk before meals to curb the outragre

GummyGoddess · 21/02/2018 14:15

@Qvar he is being fed! Trouble is that he wants whatever I have and doesn't yet understand that either I have the same food as him or that I am eating popchips and he's not allowed the salty ones (helps with the morning sickness. I'm sure the only cure for this now is childbirth. It won't go away!).

When I was on ML and taking him to baby groups, he would see another parent take out a tupperware container for their child. He would immediately crawl over and sit in front of them waiting to be fed with their child Blush. Trouble was they were so nice that they did actually feed him as well.
