Best highchair for cleaning?

PasstheStarmix · 18/02/2018 15:40

Hi, I’m looking for a highchair that is easy to clean but also safe and comfortable for baby. Please recommend any you have found good? I currently have a Mothercare teddy toybox highchair and find it a nightmare to clean and ds gets too hot in it and the cushioning doesn’t give him enough room to move.

Please recommend some ideas,
I’m currently considering the 3 in 1 ingenuity but not sure if it looks very sturdy.
Thanks...Smile

In case you’re not already sold...the antilop. I also like that it comes apart for storage or travel so easily. And it is so cheap-£17 including the cushion insert!

Another vote for the Ikea one. So easy to clean!

£19.50 according to their website and still great price. I might not bother with the cushion as Ds doesn’t like the cushioned one we have and less crevices the better.

Another vote for the Baby Bjorn. It has no straps and no crevices. It's super easy to clean.

I'd get the cushion if I were you op, only because it's a faff to go back if you decide you do need it. It comes off and goes in the washing machine so easy to clean!

It’s gone up in price in the last two years-still worth it. The cushion isn’t for the seat but for the back and sides-we found it helped keep him snug.

Ah I wasn’t sure because ds is almost a year old and he is too snug in his cushioned one at moment and hates it, maybe better for younger ones. I’ll check it out.

The cushion is really just to reduce the volume of the seat and make it smaller for younger babies. By 1, your baby is unlikely to need it OP.

We only took the padding out at 2.5 but he’s pretty slight.

Just go straight to the cafe when you get to ikea. Try him in the antilop while you have a coffee, and you’ll see if you need the cushion or not. I think probably not at 1, as he’ll happily be able to sit up by himself, but as a pp said it’s a faff to go back if you do decide you need it.

We have a Tripp Trapp and have put it aside in favour of the IKEA one. Much easier to clean and he can't get out of it- the Tripp Trapp harness is a pain- although I love the Tripp Trapp style for an older child.

Ikea Antilop. Going to get a replacement tray for when ds 2 is being weaned. So easy to clean. No regrets

Ikea Ikea Ikea Wink. My DS only needed the insert until about 9 months max so I am sure at 1 yours will be fine.

We have the baby Bjorn and love it. It really comes into its own when they get to toddler stage and they're bigger and heavier- the table part flips down so it's really easy to get them in and out- much easier than the IKEA one.

Update: Been to Ikea but ds didn’t take well to the highchair. He’s big and has long legs so getting him into a down over one is a little more tricky than sticking him in the other type. It seemed very small for him and I found it too low also. Great highchair to keep at grandparents house or travel with but not for permanent use. I’ve ended up buying a mid range one.

I think there were 2 depths to the Antilop, iirc.

I've got this one for DC2 https://www.tesco.com/direct/babybjorn-highchair-white/215-1421.prd?skuId=215-1421&pageLevel=sku&sccmp=ppccPX+-+NurseryryPX+-+Shopping+GSC+-+Nursery+GenericcPRODUCT+GROUP215-142121&dsskid=92700027959571486&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIyKix-eGy2QIVTb7tCh2vUQ3EAQYAiABEgLGvPDDBwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CMvUkoPistkCFeUB0wod9ioJkA&source=others

Needed something easily wipeable that also folds so it seemed to tick the boxes - I picked mine up on shpock though for a lot less than that.
Also it's not hard to get him in it as the tray folds down so you pop him in and pop it back up.

For Dc1 (had a small house at the time) we just used a simple plastic not fabric high chair thing that strapped onto a normal chair and he seemed to like it.

FYI it's much easier to get kids out of the ikea one from behind!

Thanks, I ended up getting the ingenuity 3 in 1 smart clean:

www.argos.co.uk/product/6199386?storeID=679&cmpid=GS001&_$ja=tsid:59156%7Ccid:596683589%7Cagid:28645054045%7Ctid:aud-144400486596:pla-282626172221%7Ccrid:96086295085%7Cnw:g%7Crnd:5408663738370175106%7Cdvc:m%7Cadp:1o2%7Cmt:%7Cloc:9046757&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIyZ6sjO6z2QIVYrXtCh2l_ghAEAQYAiABEgIiN_D_BwE

Although it’s not exactly compact it takes no more room up than my old highchair and Ds really likes sitting in it; it’s so easy to clean too. It seems really sturdy once Ds is seated too and it doesn’t move and I think it’ll last a long time especially given the 3 in 1 function. I considered the baby Bjorn on eBay as absolutely love it in the mint green but my friend’s baby (a big energetic boy) leant forward and toppled the whole thing over plunging head first to the floor and also outgrew it by about 18 months old (this really put me off.)

Ds is too much of a wiggle worm for it and needs a 5 point harness. 3 point harness is fine but it depends on the child. He’s not good with down over either. It was too low for my liking for feeding and dh thought it was tiny for ds (he’s off the charts for height) and ds wasn’t a happy chap in it whatsoever. I think it’s good for travellling and as an additional highchair and I was disappointed it didn’t work out; it was great value but just not for us.

Agree with op, the IKEA one is no good for long chunky babies. My ds almost got stuck in my friends one, he was 12 months. Big thighs and it took two of us to get him out.
