I have very nearly completed the first year of a social science BSc-however, increasingly i feel like i should be on a Social Work degree.

Anybody have any experience of pre/post qualification?Anybody on the course now want to recommend it?discourage me?!

To those who have qualified-what are you doing now? how did you find the course?

Tons of questions, but need to know more about it than what my uni say....

I am starting the social work degree in September, if I manage to complete the access course and maths gcse.

Someone at the site below may be able to help you further. There are also links to other social work sites. Hope the link below works. First time I have tried to copy and paste one.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

What's the difference between a social work degree and a health and social care degree? I don't really understand.

you can only be a social worker (ie social services) if you hold a social work degree. HTH

hello, i'm a sw student and i love it. The course is excellent and has a good practice focus. i feel it has really made me question my values and beliefs and has further enhanced a desire in me to be a social worker. i would highly recommend this course. if the original posting would like more info please just ask.

What are your placements? and how many hours?

Because it is a generic degree in social work you have to do adult and child including at least one statutory placement. i did my first in a childrens centre and second in a child protection/access team where i learnt loads. still have last one to do in jan then finished if all goes well. placements are 200 days in total in which you have to complete units as part of your assesment , this includes service user feedback. it varies from uni to uni but my first was 50 days and second 70 days. i would highly suggest getting work experience prior to the course though as you will find this extremely helpful.
