3 month old craning neck.

My 3 month old cranes his neck back whenever he is in an upright position.
He only cranes his neck and not his back, he holds it back as if he's looking right behind him, he can straighten his neck and head but he just sits and holds it looking back. If you try to straighten his neck he just pushes back and is that strong you can't.
He doesn't cry when doing it and it's all the time not just after a feed, he sleeps flat and lays flat on a surface.
He also is very dominant with his left hand, sounds stupid but only pushes up on runny time with his left hand and grabs toys with his left hand, his right hand is still always in a fist.
I've tried to contact my health visitor but she hasn't replied and just wondered if this strange behaviour warrants a trip to the GP?

It's hard to know but I'd consider taking him to see a cranial osteopath. It's very normal for them to have some tightness on one side of the neck/shoulder or the other after birth, especially if you had a prolonged labour, instrumental delivery or c-section. With my first, I had an extended 2nd stage, so was pushing for quite awhile because she was in an awkward position. All fine and had a perfectly natural, straightforward birth in the end, but she did favour one side in the early weeks. We had one appt with the cranial osteopath who could immediately recognise the tight spot and worked it out. No more problems after that.

Has he only just started doing it or has he always done it?
Mine started doing this around the same age. I think that he was just doing it because he'd found out he could, but it freaked me out at the time.
