Entertaining an intelligent toddler?

This really isn’t a bragging thread...in fact I’m feeling massively overwhelmed.
I’m a single parent to a nearly 2 year old. She’s a very anxious child and I’ve had significant support from HV’s due to this anxiety. She also shows signs of some sensory issues. After a few meetings/assessments they’ve concluded that it may be the fact that she’s very intelligent (far beyond expected for her age) and I’m not meeting her needs at present.
But what on earth do I do with her? We play, we go to groups, we go to the park, soft play, messy play...what more am I supposed to do?

Do you have any educational toys? Books? My youngest son has recently turned two. He is of average intelligence. He's in the process of learning his numbers up to twelve, his alphabet, colours and, shapes. My three year old also of average intelligence is in the process of learning to read and add. If she's clever you may want to consider teaching her to read so that she can entertain herself-you should probably be able to do it within a year. If she's more mathematically enclosed she may enjoy being 'tested' on basic things like sorting items by colour, simple sums, etc.

You have my absolute sympathy as my DS was very much like this. If your DD is very anxious and has sensory issues, I’d ask your HV for a referral to a Paediatrician for an assessment. Please don’t be fobbed off with being told it’s you. Have a look at M-Chat too Thanks

As for activities, going to the librsry and choosing books always helps but in this case I think Pinterest is your friend Smile
