10 month old and baby snacks

My 10 month old DS has not really taken to BLW or even weaning in general, but we muddle along with a bit of BLW and spoon feeding. Even so, meal times are generally hit or miss, but I still BF on demand, so he's not starving.

He appears to really enjoy these Organix Strawberry Ring biscuits. I was wondering how often he should have one of these? Is one a day too much? Or would it be wrong to have them a couple of times (after lunch and dinner, as a dessert)

I wouldn't offer the same thing more than once a day, unless it's fruit or veg. So maybe once a day as a snack (they don't need puddings at this age, unless maybe some fruit or a sugar free yogurt for extra dairy) and not every day. I tended to mostly do fruit and veg for snacks at that age. Pieces of banana, blueberries or strawberries, peas, cucumber sticks to chew on, plum cut in half with stone removed, occasionally some cheerios, things she could practice picking up and chewing. You might also try some of the other organix things, like puffs or crackers, etc. There's nothing of nutritional value to them and they're expensive, but they're helpful in getting them used to picking up food and putting it in their mouths.

My DD loved frozen peas and they kept her quiet for ages. These cheese straws make a good snack and you can keep them in an airtight container.

Have you found the MN Weaning section too? Smile

Normal plain rice cakes and cracker bread works fine too and much cheaper as sold for adults.

I actually found a lot of the adult versions were lower salt than the kids versions, but do check.

Steamed veg, apples, pears etc are good to keep them busy too.

Do you want your ds to eat more op or happy just to stick to occasional snacks? X

I'd offer once a day maximum, to avoid bad snacking habits. Other thing my toddler likes for pudding: cooked apple slices, clementines (I have to seriously ration them!), little packets of raisins, Greek yogurt.

Mine handed me back the rice cakes isthis with a kind of “where’s the flavour” look on their faces Smile

Other things you could try are slices of apple spread with smooth nut butter or cubes of cheese with halved grapes.

Watching this with interest as I’ve got stuck on giving DD rice wafer things as a pudding or snacks (she has yoghurt at lunch) and want to give her other things but not unhealthy stuff

Plain rice cakes with smooth peanut butter
Pastry pinwheels
DS also has a clementine addictions
