Ds (2.7) had a not brilliant but not too bad day today with food.

Reading the thread on 3 yos reminded me how little he eats in comparison to other children

It would almost be better if he made a fuss at meal times or tried to avoid them or something, but he loves them. He loves investigating all the food and sitting down with everyone for a meal. DOesn't get into his mouth though

Paediatrician appointment in may though.

Just they can live off miniscule amounts of food can't they? He's tall for his age and isn't that skinny anymore. And he has plenty of energy.

Today he ate 3 times (yay)
breakfast - one mouthful of oatibix and one of toast (he usually eats one piece of toast)
Lunch - 3 oven chips and two pieces of cucumber (would usually eat more cucumber and a whole carrot)
Tea - nothing (not unusual)
Supper - 1 biscuit.
Plus one cup of milk. Lots of drinks.

Doesn't seem too bad now I write it all down.

Armadillo,
i know you have said that you have tried elimainating various foods form your son's diet, but i had a similar constipated child who refused to eat anything. He was also a very windy, miserable little fella. I was at my wits end as i just didn't know what to do when someone suggested giving him goats milk instead of cows. Very quickly his symptoms lessened and within a fortnight i had a different boy!

it really sounds like he may be suffering with a food allergy/intolerance. It could be that an intolerance actually caused hs colic as a baby.Do you still think it may be the cause, or have you really given up on that one as you say it didnt make much difference? Was his constipation cleared during this time of elimating certain foods, perhaps he never got the blockage cleared. Best of luck with the paeds app, i hope it is helpful in resolving the problem. I really feel for you both.

Ds1 ate much like you describe till he was about 3.5 Armadillo. He's now a very healthy 10 yr old and is nearly as tall as me, though that's not saying much!
IrishMammyto2 are you new?

whereabouts in ireland IMT2? chipmonkey and i are in ireland too

Armadillo, if it makes you feel better we've just had a ridiculous dinner, she would only eat her casserole off my finger which of course meant she didn't eat any meat or veg, just sauce!

agree with IMT@, might be worth trying the allergy testing again

thanks for these posts.

Excluding things from his diet (for about a year) didn't seem to make any difference at the time or when he came off it. NO ease in his constipation. We really have been stuck after this (we eliminated gluten/wheat and dairy). My sister has a lot of food intolerences and so do other family members so we thought there might be a link. However with no drs support and with his diet limited anyway we didn't really want to carry on without supervision so we are now waiting for paed appointment to see what they say.

Drs would not do any allergy testing or any supervision if I tried taking him off anything (apparently it might be an allergy but he'd grow out of it so it wasn't worth the bother ).

He's still on goats milk though as he prefers it now (unfortunately my bank balance doesn't).

I've been wondering about the link between the colic (he had it really badly) and the stomach now as they seem really similar.

Storing food is interesting - it must be what ds does cos about once a week he has a day when he eats lots more than usual.

Thanks for the help.
