Didn't see it, sorry, but bumping the thread, because I could do with a few ideas too!

One thing that sometimes works with ds2 (8mths) is to fling a muslin over his face and play peepo with him.

Nikki76 · 01/05/2007 22:23

Oh thank god I'm not the only one! DS is driving me mad at the moment with nappy changes! Thinks its really funny to kick and roll over and its making it hell! I find I can distract him for a little bit by giving him my watch but it doesn't work for long!

Twinklemegan · 01/05/2007 22:25

Ditto. DS (9 months) flips himself over the moment I put him down and crawls all over the place. He's especially bad if the cats are on the bed. The pack of baby wipes distracts him for a while, but I'm getting very adept at putting nappies on from behind. I've had to give up on terries altogether.

I'm also finding it very hard to even sit him down to dress him at the moment - have resorted to standing him between my legs and hoping he doesn't topple.

Nothing works! There was some mileage in putting a nappy on Teddy first, but even that has now lost its appeal...

NappiesGalore · 01/05/2007 22:27

oh god yes. all the usual distraction ideas; siging songs, playing peepo, chucking cloths over their head so they have to get it off themselves, making faces, having toys ready to hand to them at change time and changing FAST while v short term distractions are working... failing that, brute force... switching to pull-ups asap so they dont have to be lying down for whol;e change... use yr loaf, youll figure it out.

christ im bored of nappies.
not relevent, but felt like saying it.

Nikki76 · 01/05/2007 22:27

I was just thinking today how my mum managed with me and sis with pins when we were wriggling around as no disposables then!

Its getting to stage where I dread nappy changes and he cries every time I'm laying him down on the changing mat - I don't know why! Maybe its my singing to him while I change him..... lol

inanidealworld · 02/05/2007 12:51

Aha.
Twinklemegan, its exactly the same for me which is ok for a no.1 but tricky for a no.2 hence my need for suggestions.

are you using cloth or sposies?

you can get air flow pull up nappies here and wraps here

for disposables you can get those easy up pants by pampers.

chirpygirl · 02/05/2007 13:20

Sit on them.

No, seriously, sit down with your legs out in front and lie them down sideways onto you so one of your knees is over their chest and the other isunder the legs, then change them between your legs. Use as much pressure as you feel comfy with but it should take much as they won't be able to roll away from the gap under your knee IYSWIM.

Started this with DD when she was 9 months and now I only have to lie her sideways for her to get the hint!

Ariela · 03/05/2007 13:45

Try this: Get everything ready and laid out. Grab your baby, then put a ball of sticky tape or parcel tape, made as much as possible with the sticky side out, in his hand just as you lay him down. Whip the nappy off and change quickly. Meanwhile he tries taking the sticky ball off one hand with the other hand only to find it's now stuck to the other hand...keeps him occupied and helpless on his back. Don't stop to admire his play and your handiwork, take it off him and save for next time.

from the How to Nappy booklet

purpleturtle · 03/05/2007 17:04

Have been using your tip Chirpygirl, and it has made changes quicker, but a bit noisier!

Have just seen Ariela's trick - might give that a go too.

It's not like I didn't change enough nappies on dd and ds1, but ds2 is a real challenge at the moment. lol

nappyaddict · 04/05/2007 12:39

do it with them standing up holding on to the bath, table or sofa.

purpleturtle · 04/05/2007 16:13

I don't get a good result from a nappynippa when he's standing up though. The wrap often goes on that way.

The sticky tape is a good tip - thanks for that.

BettySpaghetti · 04/05/2007 16:17

Love the sticky tape idea!

I found a good distraction (when they are old enough to be able to "play" it ) is to play "show me where your nose/mouth/eyes/ears are?" etc as it distracts them and keeps their hands occupied. Can adapt it slightly to "put your hands on your head/put your hands over your eyes/stick your tongue out" etc

nappyaddict · 04/05/2007 16:18

that's why i've bought the pull up nappies i mentioned further down!

laundrylover · 04/05/2007 16:29

DD2 (13m) is obsessed with brushing her (2!) teeth so we just give her a toothbrush at every nappy change. Sorted. I used to get really cross when I'd battled the nappy on and then realised the cloth was sticking out all over and the wrap was hanging down between her knees!

Which are the pull up nappies nappyaddict? Are they made of microfibre and do they actually work. I had some Minki Yo-yos for DD1 when she was just in nappies at night - big hit but useless. She was dry after about a week though so big expense too!

nappyaddict · 04/05/2007 16:42

theres a link further down.

laundrylover · 04/05/2007 16:53

I saw the link but it didn't give much info, just looked like a pull up wrap - have you tried the nappy at all? Just curious...

nappyaddict · 04/05/2007 16:54

yes. they have the same absorbancy as a normal nappy. all the ones i'd looked at previously had less absorbancy as they were only meant to catch "accidents" which were know good for a 10 month old.

theres a link to a nappy and a link to a wrap. you might have clicked on the wrap one?

laundrylover · 04/05/2007 17:04

I looked at both links but it just doesn't give much info and is confusing because it compares the pull up to 'plastic pants'. The nappy is microfibre right and the wrap is an airflow one??

I might be tempted if you think it's worth it! DD2 is quite happy to use the potty so a quicker nappy removal would be good - poos are so much more pleasant in a potty than squished in a nappy.

bran · 04/05/2007 17:11

I used a Rabbitt mat when ds was at this stage. It has a built in harness so it stopped him from flipping over. In the end I didn't have to use it very much as he got used to the idea that he couldn't get away.

nappyaddict · 04/05/2007 17:58

it is the wrap that is microfibre and compares to plastic pants.

the nappy is cotton.

nappyaddict · 04/05/2007 17:59

sorry misunderstood. there are 2 pull up wraps. one is airflow which i linked to. the other is the microfibre one which is also linked to on the same page as the pull up nappy but further down. the pull up nappy is the very first one on the page.

nappyaddict · 04/05/2007 18:01

have just looked on that page and realised that the nappy i thought was the one i've got has velcro fastennings. will see if i can find the right link.

nappyaddict · 04/05/2007 18:09

its by sandy's and i think its called a toddlease. it can be used from 22lb. motherease do one too but i think it can't be used until they are a lot bigger.
