Teething help is this normal

My DD is teething, I know because of the drooling and screaming (not crying, screaming). She also hasn’t taken a nap for more than 10mins in two days....is this normal/ related?
I’ve tried feeding her to sleep in a dark room and rubbing her back slowly to sleep (she likes to nap on her tummy)...nothing!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

How old is she? Babies react differently to teething, but not napping properly or waking lots was a sure sign of teething in my two. Have you tried anything like bonjella?

Chaosofcalm · 04/02/2018 19:09

You can use anbesol oil (not gel) and nurofen if needed.

6 months old, two front bottom teeth are through (they seemed less traumatic), and yes on the bonjela about 2/3 times a day.
She actually has bags under her eyes, I just want her to nap, poor thing.

Anbesol is a lot stronger than bonjella so worth a try.

Have you given her some calpol to see if that soothes her?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/02/2018 20:57

Thanks will defo try!

I would also second giving the odd bit of Calpol just to give her a break and allow her to sleep, I was unsure of using Anbesol liquid as it say 96% alcohol, but it has really helped my little fella now at 6 months old, ( still no teeth through but have had signs for about 4 weeks now). Hope things getter better ..good luck xx

Nurofen/ibuprofen is often more effective at relieving teething pain because it’s an anti inflammatory (whereas Calpol/paracetamol isn’t). If she’d really upset I’d give that.

Also try teething granules (I don’t know how much they help but they don’t do any harm) and get a teething ring you can put in the fridge.

Sometimes when he’s poorly DS will only nap on us, so we put him in the Ergobaby - do you have a sling or carrier you could use to see if she’ll nap that way?

PS I would check temperature as sometimes when teething it would be slightly raised, so that combined with other symptoms would justify pain relief imo (it’s always a balancing act to know when to give it but if clearly in pain I would).

Another vote for anbesol and ibuprofen. Calpol didn't seem to help my DD but ibuprofen worked a treat (still same now and she's 18 months). Also yes, top two were worse than bottom two.

No temperature and we have tried the granules, will buy anbesol today! Fingers x
