Where to go from here?

Hi Everyone

Would appreciate your thoughts on this one. My dd is 22mths and I had no intention of potty training until at least the summer time as long as she seemed ready. We have a potty in the house and she sits on it all the time when i'm using the loo etc. Anyhow I had bought her some little knickers that were on sale and she loves just running around in them etc. So about a week ago I was running her shower and she said "wee wee mummy" I thought she was telling me she had done one because she had no nappy on but she hadn't so I said sit on the potty then, not thinking she would and she did and then weed in it.

Following on from this the last couple of days we have been hanging round the house and because the weathers been really nice she hasn't had much on. She has started holding herself and saying wee wee when she needed a wee so I got the potty in the lounge and she would go for a wee on it she didn't have one accident at all yesterday and weed in the potty all day, so today I thought I would try it again and she started sitting on the potty herself and just going for a wee without asking with only one accident (when she got up for her nap and was still half asleep). What i'm asking I suppose is where do I go from here? I wasn't going to potty train her yet and don't really know much about it. It would seem a shame to just ignore the fact that she seems to have kind of got "it" and just keep putting nappies on her, but what do you do when you go out somewhere for a couple of hours? I'm not sure if she would go on a toilet. Should I just carry on with it at home or keep on with it all the time now or just go back to nappies now we're starting a regular week with groups and stuff.

God really sorry this is so long!!!! Any advice welcome

Thanks

last week we started going out for short tips witth out a nappy and got them longer and longer. i just take a potty with me and a bag

today is the first time she will go to play group with no nappy on so i will see how it goes

well done to your dd twobabies!

from what I can tell, she is ready to be out of the nappies as she has clearly given you all the right signals. My dd did the exact same thing (although she was about 25 months) and has been dry since (at night too).

One of the best things I got was one of these. Incredibly handy and versatile.

Good luck.

The masked poster, that looks really good, will have to get one. We are going away to centre parks today spur of the moment thing, so will carry on with the potty I think, she'll be running around swimming and outside so perfect for us to carry on!

Softmusk, good luck at play group sounds like she is doing really well!

Soft musk, how did your DD get on at the playgroup?
Came on to Mumsnet to ask the same question as twobabies as we're off to a big park today after several days of hanging round the house and found the thread already started.
I know DD won't use the toilet. Wasn't sure what to do, carrying a potty round seems logical but I'd never seen anyone do it. I guess they all have them cunningly hidden in bags (or one of those fold up ones).
Didn't have this problem with DS because he didn't toilet train until he was over three and was big enough to stand up and wee into the toilet.

Congrats soft musk (well, to your DD really). DD got round the park with no accidents despite much bouncing on bouncy castles, bouncy volcanoes etc.
This morning we went to a play group and as I organise lots of activities there and I have two kids to look after, I put on a pull up just in case. I only got one chance to suggest the potty and she wasn't interested. She came to me three hours after we left home, just as we were clearing and asked for the potty. The pull up was dry!

Floating, it's stupid but I feel that DD is rewarding with me with my patience with DS who toilet trained really late. I didn't mind leaving him in nappies until he was ready but the comments from outsiders did get to me!

twobabies · 03/05/2007 19:14

After all my happy posting about dd, centre parks was a complete wash potty training wise!

If she doesn't have a nappy on she will take herself off to the potty to wee or poo, even to the extent of getting herself down from the dinner table and using the potty. BUT as soon as you put clothes/knickers on her and take her out she just wees without warning. I was asking her if she needed a wee and took her to the toilet but she wasn't interested and then just would have an accident ten mins later...

So back to the drawing board I suppose, I don't really want to give up when shes doing so well when we're home but not sure where to go from here, any suggestions?
