I'm not sure if this is posted in the right place but hey ho!

My little girl is 6 months in 2 weeks time. I'm just looking for advice on meals to try her with. She's tried spag Bol and shepherds pie that I've cooked fresh and has tried some of the jar food from supermarkets but I don't want to be buying them all the time. I don't mind on the rare occasion but they're not exactly cheap.

She likes the fruit and veg I've tried her with but being a first time mum I'm not sure on any "dos and donts" so to speak either.

Any advice and help would be much appreciated ☺️

Don'ts: too much salt, sugar

NO honey

DO:
perhaps do a paediatric first aid course (glad we did)
give them what you're having, perhaps cooked a bit longer and cut into batons rather than circles for carrots etc

That's really it.

Mine is now 7 mo

He's a fan of anything he can suck off toast, melon, carrot, parsnip, broccoli, well cooked meat from casseroles. Not fussed AT ALL by porridge

What @arbrighton said.

Mine are 7 and 5 now, and will only eat beige food that has been oven cooked for 25 minutes and slathered in ketchup.

I miss the days when they'd eat actually eat the same as me and DH!

I'm currently weaning my 6MO. Have you tried doing fish (cod or similar) and peas puréed?

MooMummy12 · 31/01/2018 22:09

Not tried fish. I don't eat it but we very rarely buy it as DP isn't the biggest fan. When we have some in I will do :)

She will eat things with lumps in so doesn't necessarily have to be puréed :)

My lg loves things like chicken and pork cut into strips so she can hold it. pasta is an easy lunch or tea. I do a sauce of pesto mixed with creme fraiche just to give it some flavour, and whatever veg is in the fridge. I sometimes give her a couple of pieces of filled tortellini if I'm having that too which she seems enjoy. Her favourite foods so far though are baked beans, fish pie and roast dinners. I often do picky lunches with things like cheese, boiled egg, tomatoes, cucumber, carrots just because it's easy. Then her main meal is whatever we have for tea. It's messy but so much fun!

@HopeAndJoy16 I never thought of that. Thankyou ☺️

DS had a bit of my chicken fillet tonight and some sweet potato chips which he messed with/ chomped/ perhaps swallowed some of.

He then enthusiastically dived his mouth onto the spoonfuls of yoghurt offered (he could have taken and flapped it about if he wished)

I swear by frozen veg. I'll always try to give DS fresh but if it's been a hectic day and myself and DH have both been working it's a godsend! DS loves his veg, toast with peanut butter and he's a total fruit fiend.

His favourite meals are spag bol and I cook him pasta mixed with tuna, mayo , grated cheese and garden peas, odd combo bit he loves it and it's been amazing for his pincer grip!

Tip - if you are trying them on fish, shellfish, nut butters (basically foods that are associated with allergies) try them one at a time over the space of a few weeks to make sure little one isn't allergic.

My best tip is to just keep putting things on their tray and pointing at them. Would not suggest putting things into the mouth as dc was completely put off of whatever food was put in for weeks and weeks!

Look at blw. So much easier!
