8mo fed to sleep

I need help. My nearly 8mo DS is waking regularly through the night and I struggle to get him to nap.

DH does bedtime routine with a bottle and will hold/rock him to sleep. DS will then wake as soon as he's put in his cot or soon after. Following a bit more rocking he'll sleep until about 10 and from then I bf back to sleep and put him back in his cot. I've not had a problem putting him down but now he seems to wake up almost every hour and I can't survive on stints of 20 minutes sleep!

During the day I feed him to sleep laying down in my room. He goes to sleep fine but will wake up with any movement from me or him. He'll snap awake and be full of beans. He's currently blowing raspberries at me after feeding him for 20 mins asleep for 16 before I accidentally moved.

Every time I pick him up during the night he looks for boob. If DH or I try to settle him to sleep without picking him up he kicks off and is harder to get to sleep!

Any advice welcome

There's another sleep regression about that age I believe so best to do what works, sleep when you can and ride it out

Needsleepnow87 · 31/01/2018 20:22

Not sure if I have any advice but my nearly 9 month olds sleep has been off for 2-3 Weeks. No self settling. Waking more frequently during night. Crying when put in cot. Read up on the 8-10 month sleep regression - that’s what I’m blaming it on and hopefully it’ll pass soon for both of us x

8 month sleep regression. It comes up on here several times a day. Wink

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

DS's sleep has always been bad so I didn't think the 8 month regression could make it worse, apparently I was wrong!

I just feel like a bad mum when I see that by now DS should be sleeping twice a day - I can barely get him down once!

He should not be fed or rocked to sleep - we can't get him down otherwise and he fights us!

Fingers crossed than in 2 months he'll just start to get this sleep thing!

Have you tried Ewan Dream Sheep or My Hummy?

Modestandatinybitsexy · 01/02/2018 11:39

We have a Ewan and he's used as part of the sleep routine

He should not be fed or rocked to sleep

Says who?

Kraggle · 01/02/2018 11:44

When my daughter was waking every hour she was either poorly or teething. Bugger constantly spits out medicine so we just had to get through it.

arbrighton · 01/02/2018 19:49

I do whatever I need to in order to get DS to sleep at 7 mo. Sometimes feed, sometimes rocking, sometimes dummy, sometimes just in cot to kick about then he drops off.

The biological norm is feed and/ or rock

It is only WESTERN SOCIETY that says otherwise

Modestandatinybitsexy · 01/02/2018 23:12

Thanks for the reassurance. DH seems to think he's manipulating us but I know DS isn't capable of that kind of thought process and is only crying because it's something he needs. I'd like to avoid any crying but then I worry I'm instilling bad sleep associations!

They are only 'bad' associations as western society says so.

The rest of the world just gets on with it.

I am going to continue responding to my child with what he needs, safe in the knowledge that he'll become more independent when he's ready but needs a secure attachment to me first.

Arbrighton thank you so much for this post, I came on this thread as my 6month old has started waking through the night the last week and has not been waking for a feed necessarily but has been upset and unsettled, and I have found myself questioning picking him up and cuddling him. I always said I would never loose my beliefs and get lost Listening to the "they should be doing this by this age" group, but I felt I may have lost my way a little this last week and thought I may be "training" him with bad sleeping patterns by picking him up. Your post completely reiterates my beliefs and has given me back my perspective, thank you again. (Sorry do not mean to derail conversation or post op)
