How often are you feeding? A 4 week old should be fed every 2-3 hours

Hannabee123 · 30/01/2018 12:45

She's eating every 3 hours or less 2 or 3 hours

That is a hell of alot. Is she irritable? Could be reflux the swallowing is soothing so they appear to want feeding more.

Is she sick at all?

Are you mixing the right amount of formula with water? Just wondering if it's a bit thin.

Keep a log of times of feeds with the amount she's had for a couple of days, along with how many wet nappies etc. This does seem like a really excessive amount.

Hannabee123 · 30/01/2018 19:48

The formula water ratio is fine I'm really anal with it. I'm doing everything to make sure it's not just comfort eating. Seeing if she will settle make sure it's not her nappy etc. But she will literally not settle until she drinks what seems like a ton. I don't know what to do

Is she using a dummy? Babies suck for comfort. Maybe she would want less food if she could get that comfort via a dummy?

icantdothis2017 · 30/01/2018 19:51

That's a hell of a lot .
My dd is two now and she never ever drank more than 7oz in one go the whole 12 months she was on formula .

How's her weight ?
Have you asked a hv or gp?

PotatoesOfTheCarribean · 30/01/2018 19:58

Definitely speak to your HV or GP. Could be reflux, or something else.

Second the suggestion to give a dummy if you're not already. Be wary of cutting down the feeds incase it is to do with an underlying medical issue. Get her seen first

Definitely write a record of exactly how much milk she's having though so you can show the HV/GP

PotatoesOfTheCarribean · 30/01/2018 20:00

How many feeds a day, roughly?

Hannabee123 · 30/01/2018 20:09

I've tried a dummy but she won't take to it and hates me for even showing her it exists. She's on baby gaviscon and tha5 is a fairly recent thing? Could that have anything to do with her feeding so much. She doesn't spit it up I don't know where it's all going

OP posts:
Flisspaps · 30/01/2018 20:14

So the Gaviscon is for reflux?

Hannabee123 · 30/01/2018 20:37

Yeah I took her to the GP a few days ago and they put her on that to have with feeds and she's just gone nuts from then on
