Tell me how you entertain you baby....

My ds 2 is 6 weeks old and i am very lucky as generally he sleeps relatively well. He feeds every 2 to 4 hours in the daytime, longer at night usually. He generally has 2 long ish naps a day and rarely stays awake much longer than 1-1.5 hours in the day....during these awake times though he sometimes gets restless, grunty, wriggly and often cries. This may well be normal, however I'm just wondering what to do with him when awake. We sing, do tummy time and walk around looking at lights/mirrors. Is there anything else anyone can recommend? Looking for ideas/inspiration. They dont really do much at this age and my funny(?!) faces only entertain him for so long.
TIA. Smile

I think calling nhs guidance "often questionable" is a bit rich given ypuve linked to someone with a very clear agenda. Although apologies because I didn't read her further links so if she is pointing to some rct trials then let me know.

I can see the argument that it doesn't stop flat head syndrome necessarily but the idea that it's somehow disrespectful to babies lost me a bit.

Some great ideas. Thank you. I'm going to try the fabric one. Smile
I think i need a sling....my carrier hurts my back, but maybe a sling would be better.
Im going to continue with tummy time as he loves it and it's only for a very short time. I dont think he'll hate me when he's older. Fingers crossed. Will read the links when i have more time.

Tummy time isn't harmful. The article just says that it's unnecessary because it exists to balance out all the time that babies spend in "containers" such as car seats and prams etc, which is not something I recognise from mainstream UK parenting - whether it's more common in the US I could not say.

Dc hated tummy time but I was told that having him in a sling was an excellent substitute as it helped with neck control.

Another thing I remembered is that he used to like foil blankets from first aid kits to scrunch. I cut one into thirds as it was massive and he liked to roll on it and screw it up.

Do what you want to do. Go where you want to go.
Your well being is very important.
Small babies are v portable.
Anyhing is entertainment for a baby. Going out provides new sensations sound light noise . Keep.talking to him.
Putting baby on tummy for few seconds e.g. every nappy change helps.build strength.
