And is it worth training/applying due to the massive shortage of jobs in uk - due to NHS cutbacks????
have applied for the physio degree course part time (2 days a week) but havent heard back yet and am worried there no point training!
Also am worried the job is too "physical" for me as am not that sporty really.

One of my close friends is currently studying physiotherapy at the same university as me. She isnt overly worried about the shortages as she is seconded by the NHS and has been guaranteed a job at the end of it. Not all physios go onto work in sport related fields, my friend is no where near sporty- she will be the first to admit that.
The course itself involves both theory and practical seesions, the practical sessions are very hands on ( she was stood in her bra a few weeks ago while a fellow student had to 'manipualte' certain muscles)

It is a very intense course, I know that my friend struggles with the academic side of it and she had the added benefit of working as a physio assistant at a large hospital before uni for four years.

im not sure about job shortages, the nhs is full of shortages all over ( imtraining to be a nurse - im worried about jobs also)

if you have any q's - im sure she wouldnt mind answering- let me know.

thanks for the info...which uni are you both at?
i have no physio experience at all so prob wont even get past the interview stage! i was just hopeful as the part-time degrees get fewer applicants so thought i might be in with a chance!
Been reading up on physio and am glad you dont need to be sporty, apparently 99% of the course is not based on sports injuries!
Can you ask her how hard the placements are and how long they generally last each time?
TIA !

we are both at Birmingham Uni, its one of the best in the country for both Physio and nursing.

Its highly competetive to get into, I think Bham had something like 1100 applicants for 100 places the year my friend was selected, but I dont know if everyone had done any relevant work experience to help them get on the course.

My friend has been at uni doing theory since october, she goes on her first placement for four weeks in june.

Im not sure about the set up for her second year, I will ask her for you.
