BIG explosive bf poo, up back, down legs etc and he had a disposable on! The BM wraps have given up the fight and I have 2bumhuggers, swaddlebees and wambamboos coming soon. I'm really worried that they won't contain the copious amounts of poo . Will they?

They will be much better than the disposibles. You may still get the occasional slight leak, but they will be nowhere near as bad as disposibles. (and you may well get no leaks at all.

we only ever had leaks with dizzies and DS can really churn the stuff out!

Disposables are hell.

Your new nappies have good elastic at the legs and back and you have another layer over the top to hold in the last bit (wool might need a quick rinse, but you have more than enough to keep you going whilst it dries iyswim).

Woohoo!
Flame can I use anything for washable wipes? Would the prefolds do the job and do you just use water or add anything else to it? Also (last one I promise) how do you work these when out n bout?

I tend to use normal babywipes.

Washable wipes - the prefolds might be a bit big unless you cut them up. If you use old flannels or cut a couple of old towels into squares they work fine.

There are various things you can buy to make solutions out there... when I do use them I tend to use chamomile tea and a squirt of baby lotion in very hot water, then let them soak into it in a tupperware tub and use them as it dries.

I use fleece wipes for mine - they get nice and moist, but wring out well so you only have a damp wipe iyswim.

I think the most likely one to stop the explosions is the Swaddlebees.
We found bumhugger tres leaky, because they were very slim cut in the crotch - see how you go.
Sandy's are very good for poop explosions and quite cheap on used nappy forums.
I hope they all work really well though.
Agree about the Dizzies - they were lovely, but leaky.
For washable wipes - I use old towels cut up and just pour boiled water from the kettle and a couple of drops of tea tree into a large margarine or ice-cream tub, then dump in the wipes.

What will the bumhuggers be good for? I've got woollywraps or a red totsbots fleece wrap to go ovr the top. I take it the drive to grandma's will be a wet one (45 mins away)?

Hi again, the bumhuggers are absorbent in terms of peepee - hemp is the most absorbent fibre available for nappies. I read on one French agriculture site that pure hemp was 250% more absorbent than cotton compared with around 60% for bamboo.
It was the actual cut of the nappy that caused problems for us, because it was narrow across the crotch it leaked. It might be better for your baby's shape.
I would go for a wool wrap for a longer journey - I think fleece can be quite leaky if the baby is in one position for a while. Wool actually absorbs the pee and holds onto it better.
Hope the trip goes smoothly.
