Silent reflux and sleep

Hi everyone, I am a first time mum to my 5 week old who has silent reflux and we were told to try aptimel reflux milk. So far this seems to be helping and when I put him down in his moses basket he now goes straight to sleep (whereas before he wouldn’t settle). During the day he feeds 5oz every 3 hours and sometimes I have to wake him for this (the hv advised us to do this so he’s in a routine). However, at night, he wakes every 2 hours (last bottle at 10pm) so by the time I’ve fed and changed him and got back to sleep I’ve had had about an hour. I’m so tired. Am I doing something wrong in regards to his routine or could this still be the reflux? Any advice appreciated ladies. Xx

Cant help but will be following! Glad that your LO is starting to feel better!

DD is 3.5 weeks old and we are really struggling with her reflux - she spends most of the day and night crying and writhing (and not sleeping!)- it is heartbreaking. GP has given us Infant Gaviscon to try today so fingers crossed this will help. If not, I'm thinking about trying the milk too. Hope someone can answer this for you!

You are definitely not doing anything wrong. Babies with reflux are hard work. Both my babies had severe reflux and were medicated. My dd grew out of hers at 8 months my ds is now 6 months are still really struggling. We are on gaviscon and have been prescribed ranitidine as well and this has helped with the pain but still very sicky and occasional discomfort. He stills wakes regularly through the night sometimes just for resettling or a feed for comfort. I have put him on his belly since very young to help with sleep and he much prefers this (I'm aware of SIDS advice) I can't give you much advice but can sympathize with you. I'm very much 'never wake a sleeping baby' and believe they will find there routine so don't pressure yourself to wake babes if you are getting rest in the day when they are sleeping. Good luck, reflux is a horror but it does get better x

Mine has silent reflux. Gaviscon did sod all. Ranitidine has definately helped. He used to thrash and grunt all night, everyone says it was normal and just wind/digestion. One day his meds timings got accidentally out of whack and I ended up giving him a dose with his night feed. Grunting stopped immediately. I've been giving him one of his doses at night (midnight/1am) for a few weeks now and no grunting at all. Just thought I'd mention in case you experience this.

Thankyou so much for the replies ladies! It’s so nice to know that you aren’t the only one in this situation. That’s good to know about the ranitidine! He’s just been prescribed gaviscon so if that doesn’t work at least there is another option. Mummytopickle, I have had to start putting him on his side as it’s the only way he is comfortable and I know there is a SIDS risk with that too, you just want to ease their pain don’t you.

I have a 2 week old ds and suspected when pregnant something was going on as he had constant hiccups......
This carried on after birth. He feeds constantly.... he hiccups all the time and chokes a lot on milk coming back up his throat and he grunts all the time. He’s clearly v uncomfortable 😔
My other ds had reflux and cmpa but they were more the throwing up loads but ds3 only vomits small amounts
Not sure what to do will see how things go as may take him to the gp but watching this thread in case I can get any tips
