Car seat help!

Not sure where to post this thread but I’m desperately seeking advice for a car seat that is easy to fit/remove for when my little boy is with his Grandma. He’s 11 months old and just outgrowing his carrier. My mother in law is really active and is always ferrying friends around in her days ‘off’ looking after our little man so we are looking for a new car seat that will be easy to take in and out of the car. Mum will take the seat in and out a bit so I want it to be something that's easy for her to install. I would ideally like it to be extended rear facing but appreciate they can be quite fiddly to fit. She doesn’t want an isofix seat either.

Please help! X

Although it's lovely that she's lookong after your LO, the answer for what you are looking for is an isofix. So simple to take in and out of the car (the base included for when she doesn't have him) and so much safer. I have a maxi cosy pebble and it does the trick for us.

Joie every stage.

I got a seat with impact shield at this sort of stage for similar reasons. It's not as safe as rear facing but does supposedly put less pressure on the spine and neck in an impact. I didn't have a car so I especially liked that it could be very easily and quickly fitted and the fit ting is easy to do and requires no adjustment.

You could even get one which concerts to a booster later if you want, but you don't need to.

Does she not have isofix in her car or is she just worried it will be difficult to use? Because I agree with PPs that this would be the best way of fitting a seat as thy just click in and out. The problem with seat belt fitting for group 1 is that you've really got to put some welly into it to get it right and secure enough, and this can be more difficult with a rear facing seat. It's another arument for the impact shield seats though, because they are easily tightened enough just with pulling by hand and intuitive for grandparents too.

The Joie stages or Britax Two Way Elite are good ones to look at but if you are keen to rear face, you need to know your child's height and weight at 4 years old. 18kg or more before 4 and he will have outgrown the Stages (and all other 18kg seat) before he's old enough to move into a high back booster. In that case, you'd be better getting a 25kg seat like the Britax TWE.

I'd really recommend joining the Facebook group 'car seats for mummies and daddies' as they're rear facing specialists and their advice is excellent. If you look into impact shield seats as suggested by a PP, please read their advice on those seats as part of your research.
