Help. Anyone speak Italian?

My son is going on a school trip to Milan. Its an amazing trip (Ferrari, Alessi, Da Vinci + more) and he was desperate to go so I was thrilled when they said yes given the difficulties. Problem is he has severe anaphylactic level food allergies which need very careful management. I’ll provide his breakfast and packed lunch and he will join me for dinner in the evening rather than eating out with his group so hopefully all will go well. The difficulty will come when they go to a cafe for lunch and he’s occupying a seat but eating his own food. I want to give him a note (to help avoid him feeling any worse about it than he already does) saying in Italian-
“This child has severe food allergies. It is safer for you if he eats his own food. Please accept this in payment for his seat at your table.”
I’m going to tape a note with it, the idea being it covers the cafes overheads and will stop him being singled out or ejected to eat on the pavement!
Does anyone speak Italian that could possibly help me with a polite translation. I’ve tried google translate and even though I don’t speak Italian I know it’s wrong!
Any help much appreciated.

My Uncle lives in Italy. I can ask him to translate it for you and check it with his friends. He's British and has good Italian but will want to be 100% sure! When do you need it by?

That’s very kind. Leaving Thursday evening. If he wouldn’t mind I’d really appreciate it. Thankyou.

Questa bambini ha gravi allergie alimentari. E piu sicuro per te se mangia il suo stesso cibo. Per favore accerra questo in pagamento per il suo posto Al tuo tavolo

I would add 'Millie Gracie' at the end which is a form of 'Thank you very much

TroysMammy · 22/01/2018 17:11

Millie gracie is incorrect. It's mille grazie which is thank you very much.

Bambini is children, bambino is a male child, bambina is a female child.

DirtyDancing · 22/01/2018 17:32

Are you happy with the rest Troy?

TroysMammy · 22/01/2018 18:35

Are you? I don't know about the rest but I know basic Italian.

I’d type it up with a medical sign in it so that they know as soon as they see it what it is.

Would it not be simpler for him to order a bottled water and eat his packed lunch on the go? Not ideal but he might feel a bit embarrassed if they start shrugging/calling the manager/asking questions etc.

Poor guy!

What are the school doing to help with this? Presumably this was part of their risk asessment? Brilliant that he is going. But will there not be Italian speaking adults with each group?

I think the note is an excellent idea though.

Faintlinesquints · 22/01/2018 19:20

I can empathise and have had to print similar notes when travelling with dd.
I always look online to the country I'm going to as they have allergy information and notes you can use. Here's the Italian one and it gives you an example at the bottom of the page, you can always print off other parts from the website too. Hope to help.

I'm rusty, but I'd go eith the followng:

Questo ragazzo ha gli allergie alimentarie molto gravi. Per la sua sanità e per la vostra sicurezza, é meglio che mangia il suo proprio cibo, preperato senza allergeni. Vi prego, accettate questo pagimento per il posto al tavolo. Mille grazie.

Which should translate as;
This child has very serious food allergies. For his health and for your safety, it is better for him to eat his own food, prepared without allergens. Please accept this payment for his seat. Many thanks.

I would strongly recommend finding a native speaker to check that, however!

Thank you all so much for your input. @dirtydancing, please thank your Uncle its very kind of him considering he’s probably not a mumsnetter! It is a nightmare but when Ive been to italy in the past (without my son) Ive found them really friendly and accommodating on the allergy front (Im a coeliac which adds to the fun when we’re out ordering together!) Most seem to speak good english but I think we often come accross as a bit rude not attempting the language. No the adults going do not speak italian but there is a ratio of one teacher to four children so he’ll have a watchful eye on him. If he ate on the go he will still have to occupy a seat which could be earning the owner money and sitting watching other people eat whilst you sit twiddling your thumbs kinda makes you stand out more- something young teenage boys hate!
When we travel together I carry a list of all the things hes allergic to and the potential dodgy areas and hand it to the waiting staff to take to the chef and that works very well.
The school have been very helpful, you can imagine how freaked out they were about boy with severe allergies eating in foriegn climbs when theyve had experience of how hard it can be to manage at home so Im delighted they've said yes.
Last year after a risk assessment on another child with allergies they all decided they just couldnt keep them safe so they couldnt go, poor thing was really upset especially when everyone came back raving about all the exciting things that had happened.
Initially they were inclined to say no this time as well- certainly would have made their lives easier.
I offered to stay in another hotel so as not to appear interfering and provide his pre-checked breakfast and packed lunch and feed him in the evening, they have been very clear about when he’s discharged into my care in the evening its my sole responsibility and the health and safety risks etc etc so Im pretty sure theyve thought hard about it.
I like the medical sign idea as well, will incorporate that.

Thanks everyone.
