Helping tidy up

My dd turned two in November, thought as she's getting a bit older I'd try getting her involved in tidying up after herself a bit more, nothing major just to introduce the idea. However every time I ask her she says "no thanks" Hmm, I've tried to make a game out of it but she's completely disinterested. Should I keep pursuing it or just wait till she understands a bit more?

Keep going with it. My DD is younger and tidied up. Try singing a tidy up song.

I agree, just keep trying.

Say things like “oh I love tidying, daddy/granny loves tidying, isnt it fun”

Hopefully she’ll want to join in Grin

My DCs found it hilarious if I pretended the toy basket (or bag, anything really) was a mouth. I used to open and close it and make "nom nom" noises like the Cookie Monster. Worked every time!

I don't really know what to do when she refuses, should I press the issue?! It's quite hard to MAKE a toddler do anything and I'm probably a bit of a soft touch. Blush

WHat often works with reluctant tidiest at nursery (so a bit older but still) is to first make it very specific - "Can you pick up the square blocks & put them on the shelf?" (Tidy up the blocks is too vague) & make it competitive - "Oh I'm going to beat you/how fast can you get them all picked up?"
