Dummy or hunger?

Hello
My little boy is 12 weeks old. He’s had a dummy since he was about 2 weeks old and now uses it to get off to sleep for naps and at nighttime. It means I can put him down awake and he settles off we’ll, but during the night he does wake occasionally when he realises it’s popped out!

I’m struggling to distinguish the difference between his moans for his dummy and those for hunger. Does anyone have any advice on this?

He’s bottle fed so I pop his dummy in while I go and make his bottle (I give him one feed when he wakes between 3 and 4am) and he tends to go off to sleep while I’m making it.

Any pearls of wisdom much appreciated!
Thanks

If hes hungry am sure he will let you know if hes hungry he would cry a few minutes after the dummy because there's no milk.

Does he chew his hand at all? I find this is a hunger sign also if you're not sure tickle/rub his cheek if he goes for your finger it's hunger ime

If he stays asleep with the dummy then he isn't hungry! If he generally wakes again within an hour or so then he's hungry.

My DS is the same age and will spit his dummy out after a few seconds if it's hunger, and he also eats his hands!

Dd would spit the dummy out when hungry- if she wasnt she would go to sleep

DD will just spit the dummy out if she’s hungry. If he’s taking it and going back to sleep then he’s not hungry. If he wakes again within half an hour then I’d say hungry
