Mine are 5 and 8. Bed time is 7.30 every night

ChoudeBruxelles · 18/01/2018 20:02

I think 8pm is early for a nearly 10 year old. Can’t they go to bed at eight and then read for half an hour?

Ellieboolou27 · 18/01/2018 20:02

5yo and 2yo both go bed by 7 in school nights, 5yo has lights out at 7.30/8

3 y/o about 6:30, 7pm if she's napped during the day

5.5 y/o, 7pm at the moment as he's exhausted from school, but usually about 7:30 otherwise.

Ds 11 - 9.30
Dd 14 - 10

5yr old in reception, bed between 7pm-7.30pm, usually just after 7pm.

DD 11 - 8.45-9
DS 14 - 10

Both boys asleep by 8. Can be anytime between 7.30-8. 2 & 6 yrs old. The two year old sometimes naps in the day.

I think you could be right choude, husband thinks it's early too. I wasn't too sure as they are murder to get up in the mornings. We also have a baby and tend to go to bed at 8.30pm most nights.

I think we will let eldest stay up bit longer to read and see how it goes.

Thanks.

2 year old at 6-6.30pm and 5 year old 7.30-8pm

SueGeneris · 18/01/2018 20:14

My nearly 10yo has lights out at 9. 7yo goes at 8-8.30.

They have to be up for 7, the 7yo is often awake by 6 though. And I've sometimes found her in her room reading at 4.30am!!

Google the age sleep requirements guidance - I can't remember offhand but it might help if you work backwards from the time they are meant to be up. I think 10 hours was fine for a 10 year old, hence being ok with 9pm-7am.

Pennywhistle · 18/01/2018 20:15

I have two ten year olds.

One falls asleep the moment the light goes off, the other finds it more difficult.

They both go for shower/bath at 8pm. I come up and kiss them good night at 8:30pm but if anyone doesn’t feel sleepy they are allowed to read for another 15 mins and trusted to switch off their own light.

It works pretty well, gives them a feeling of being in control and a little bit grown up.

Interestingly the one who usually sits up reading longer is much easier to get up in the morning, so it may be that he just needs less sleep.

blindmelons · 18/01/2018 20:17

Dd 10 goes up around 8:30 and will read until she falls asleep, I don't go up until 10 but she is always asleep and I trust her. I think she probably reads for an hour.

TittyGolightly · 18/01/2018 20:18

DD is 7. Bedtime during the week is 9pm. Later at weekends.

LabradorMama · 18/01/2018 20:22

4 years old, he goes to bed at 6 on nights before preschool (up at 7) and more like 6.30 on other nights (up at 7.30-8)

I’m aware that a lot of our friends’ children go far later but DS has always needed a lot of sleep.

WyfOfBathe · 18/01/2018 20:23

6yo starts bedtime routine at 7.15, with lights out at 8.

1yo also starts bedtime routine at 7.15. Normally asleep between 7.45-8.

DD1 has started to object to going to bed at the same time as her baby sister. I imagine the same thing could be happening with your 9yo not wanting to be sent to bed at the same time as 5yo?

PocketCoffeeEspresso · 18/01/2018 20:28

4 and 7 - bedtime has always been 7:30 (as in, lights off, roll over and go to sleep now - they start going any time after 7)

Later doesn't mean they get up later - they rarely sleep in and are up between 6:30 and 7 every morning.

Youngest is very ready for bed then, and older is fine with it (they prefer to share a room still - and occasionally a bed!)

IHaveACuntingPlan · 18/01/2018 20:33

My 5 y old is in bed at 7 and goes almost straight to sleep.
My 6 nearly 7 y old goes up at half 7 and takes ages to drop off. We tried a later bedtime but he was awake even longer and was shattered everyday.
At weekends they go up half hr later and the eldest can read until 9 provided he stays in bed the following morning and isn't up at the crack of dawn.

readytostart · 18/01/2018 20:34

Yes @WyfOfBathe, she doesn't think it's fair. I can see her point I suppose.

Im normally bedded early myself with baby but will give it a go and see how she gets on.

17 month old and 4 year old. Both go up around half 6 and asleep by 7. Unless baby has napped in which case they go up around 7 ish

Chilver · 18/01/2018 20:43

My 5 nearly 6 year old goes to bed at 7pmish every night, lights out after 5mins but occassionally they're still singing and talking away nearer 8pm, but usually asleep pretty fast.

Saz1995 · 18/01/2018 20:46

My 5 month old goes to bed at 7.30 pm and wakes up 8am
