when i changed her this morning her wee-wee smelt really strong (she was off colour a few nights ago), and her poor bottom is red raw. I have bathed her (tho she wouldnt sit, so had to wash her bottom carefully), and put sudocrem on it, but she is screaming everytime i have to change her nappy.

what else can i use to soothe her bottom. she has had some no-nappy time, and am about to do some more in a bit before bedtime, but really want this to heal asap.

it takes a while, misdee. make sure that she's drinking lots (to dilute the wee as much poss), that you're not using wipes to clean her when you change her nappy, and that she has as much nappy-off time as poss. also, i ladle the sudacreme on - like it's gloss paint!

another metanium devotee here!!

some supermarkets have it, if your chemists is shut (I'm not on commission )

hana · 27/07/2004 18:55

metanium works wonders ( what's in it?) worked a treat for those raw sores that dd used to have. also leaving her diaper off wiht just a vest or babygro too. HOpe it clears up soon

bundle · 27/07/2004 18:57

titanium (only know this because dd1 smeared it all over her face when I left it on a lowish shelf - including along her eyes/eyelashes. i wiped most of it off with wet cotton wool but took her to a&e when they heard what was on the label. luckily her tears had got most of it out of her eyes as they thought it could potentially cause damage )

daisy1999 · 27/07/2004 19:31

metanium is a miracle cure

Lisa78 · 27/07/2004 19:35

another metanium vote - think its fab

karen99 · 27/07/2004 19:41

another metanium vote here too and also vaseline every day once it's cleared (found vaseline was much better than sudocream which we'd used for months and kept getting reoccuring nappy rash). Hope she feels better soon.

whizzz · 27/07/2004 19:49

Another vote for metanium although it smells yukky & don't get it on your clothes. It does work wonders !

popsycal · 27/07/2004 19:58

metanium here...
bigger branches of tesco sell it now too

popsycal · 27/07/2004 19:59

just a thought - if her wee smells strong, maybe get her cehcked out for an infection at the docs??

misdee · 27/07/2004 22:43

well she isnt as red this evening b4 bed, i could actually get nearer her bottom this time. We use washable nappies, and i thought i read somewhere that silk liners are good for nappy rash? is that true? where could i get a couple for days like this?

Have been using just water on her bottom, with fleece wipes. also been dabbing it dry and leaving the nappy off.

will see how her wee smells in the morning, hopefully it'll be back to normal. she was running a bit of a temp a couple of ights ago, and seemed a bit snotty today, but generally apart from the sore botty her usual mischeivious self.

My dd ran a slight fever on and off for two weeks and was off her food a bit and generally under the weather - and her wee smelt really strong, but didn't seem too bad so didn't go back to GP after initial visit at onset of minor symptoms (forgot to mention smelly wee to dr too). I didn't really put two and two together until her symptoms culminated one night and we ended up at A&E. It turned out she had a water infection. Can't remember if she had a rash, but also recommend mitanium as there have definately been a few cases of nappy rash in our household over the years.HTH - get her checked if the wee remains strong and she has any other symptoms that would suggest she's not 100%!

Hi misdee, I know you're an experienced cloth nappy user so this is probably completely irrelevant, but I've recently posted a thread about detergent build up in my cloth nappies and it was the cause of ds' nappy rash from hell. Did a single wash with no detergent at all except for a vinegar rinse at the end and the rash cleared up really quickly. I now don't use any stain removers and just half my usualy liquid with a scoop of soda crystals. Touch wood he's been fine so far. Haven't even had to get out the metanium!! HTH

misdee · 02/08/2004 15:03

Hi Karen.

we use minimal washing podwer and soda crytsals already. I always rinse then thro 1st as well. The rash has now cleared up, like i said, i think it was probably as she was off colour a few days last week. I have now ordered some silk liners to keep handy in case she (or new baby next year) gets a case of the dreaded rash again.
